You cant expect to land all your targets but you would expect to have a little more success than we have done. By successes I dont mean signing Aspas, Ilori, Alberto, Moses & Cissoko
Even though we pull this off we should review things IMO. But if this doesn't go through we have spent two or three months in negotiations and scouting for nothing which is pretty poor. Other clubs seems to handle things quicker in general and we need to shape up.

If clubs don't want to sell, or players want to go elsewhere (Chelsea for example), or the price (fee / wages / agents fees) is higher than you're willing to spend, then what else can you do?
I think some people want us to get any old player that we've not previously heard of as it's better than nothing. But the list of players you mention shows that shouldn't always be the case. The players coming in have go to be improvements to the squad.
I'd rather we got nobody than a random sub-bench warmer. That narrows things down considerably.
Some would have us spend 'lots' for the sake of spending. See Andy Carroll for past mistakes.

that Fernando lad at porto, last year of his contract [till 06,14]. saw sumfin talking about 10m. city will snaffle him.Originally posted by dom9 View PostFor all the people who are crying out for a DM, I have yet to see one example of a realistic target mentioned. It's almost as if the club is expected to have a magic wand.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

OK - that's one. But we're not really in a position to go head to head with City in the transfer market and come out successfully.Originally posted by baitman View Postthat Fernando lad at porto, last year of his contract, saw sumfin talking about 10m. city will snaffle him.
Are there any others?Oh I don't know.

Yes and no, Arsenal seem to be addressing what they need, even though it's only short term signings, same can be said of Everton. Tottenham need to cull the squad, Chelsea and United have spent big.Originally posted by dom9 View PostIf you look at how much business has been done in this window specifically by other clubs, then I don't think we're too different from the norm.
Firstly, handle negotiations quicker. Salah's agent said as much. Don't go after targets we can't aquire or stop signing useless players and put the cash towards bigger signings.Originally posted by dom9 View PostIf clubs don't want to sell, or players want to go elsewhere (Chelsea for example), or the price (fee / wages / agents fees) is higher than you're willing to spend, then what else can you do?
Agree with that, but we seem to go after quality players, Miki Ryan, Costa, Willian, Salah and Konoplanka but time after time fail. Then we go and sign some average squaddie like Aspas or one for the future in Alberto. Poor strategy IMO.Originally posted by dom9 View PostI think some people want us to get any old player that we've not previously heard of as it's better than nothing. You can add Carroll, Adam and Downing to that list. You won't - but you should.Originally posted by Lecter View PostIf this fails then the club should look at their strategy going forward

Yann M'Vila and Saul Niguez were both looked and were attainable. Not sure if there was ever anything in those links though. It appears it was never a target area for us in reality.Originally posted by dom9 View PostOK - that's one. I wouldnt get too hung up on what Rogers is saying in his PC. He cant appear upbeat until the guy has really signed and clearly talks are ongoing or details like medical have to be arranged / done.
He is not going to give anything away.
I am still cool about this.Jacques Brel is alive and well and playing at Anfield
