It looks like we spent far too long on the Salah deal and when that fell through and we switched to this lad we havent had either the time or the where with all to get this one done

If we come out of this window emptyhanded I do hope we learn from any mistakes we might have made because on the face of it we will have had a couple of failures this window on the back of a few last summer

If you look at how much business has been done in this window specifically by other clubs, then I don't think we're too different from the norm.

If clubs don't want to sell, or players want to go elsewhere (Chelsea for example), or the price (fee / wages / agents fees) is higher than you're willing to spend, then what else can you do?

I think some people want us to get any old player that we've not previously heard of as it's better than nothing. But the list of players you mention shows that shouldn't always be the case. The players coming in have go to be improvements to the squad.

I'd rather we got nobody than a random sub-bench warmer. That narrows things down considerably.
