Barcelona say Alexis Sanchez is not for sale after Juventus link

"Alexis is not a Barcelona player who is on the market," the Catalan club's president Josep Maria Bartomeu announced.

"He has a contract with us and that is the only thing that counts. He has had an excellent season for us.

"Obviously, he is part of our plans for next season. We have always wanted him here and he is a highly valued player at this club."

Juventus are reported to have made a formal enquiry about Sanchez, but Bartomeu insisted that they have not had any contact with the Serie A champions.

"We do not know anything about the interest from Juventus," he continued.

"Nothing official has reached us. For that you would have to speak to the player's agent.

Filipe Luis: Chelsea close in on £20m Atletico Madrid left-back

Chelsea are closing in on Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis.

According to the Evening Standard, the Blues are prepared to offer the Brazilian a salary of £78,000 per week to convince him to move to the club, with manager Jose Mourinho seeking another left-back with Ashley Cole set to leave Stamford Bridge during the summer.

Luis, who played against Chelsea in Atletico's Champions League semi-final win last month, has a £19.5m buy-out clause in his contract.

The Blues have a strong relationship with the La Liga champions, having loaned them goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for the last three seasons and been in negotiations with them for several months over £32m striker Diego Costa.

Speaking after the Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid last weekend, Luis said he was hoping to see out the remaining three years on his contract at Atletico. However, Chelsea’s offer will double his salary and they are confident he will change his mind.

With Cole leaving as a free agent, Chelsea have limited options for the left-back role. Right-back Cesar Azpilicueta, who impressed out of position there last term, will be handed a contract extension this summer. Ryan Bertrand and Patrick van Aanholt have been on loan at Aston Villa and Vitesse Arnhem respectively, but the former is set to be sold and the latter will be assessed in pre-season training.

Luis is considered to be one of the best left-backs in Europe, although his performances were not considered good enough for him to be named in Brazil’s World Cup squad.

Big fan ..quality signing if true.

Courtois,Costa,Felipe & god only knows who else added to their current squad.... they will be so strong. Chelsea are buying established quality, that's what we need to be doing.

They had established quality this season and they were ****house.

We didn't and we finished 2nd.

                They should be fearing us.

They lacked a quality CF desperately & it showed.. they seemed to have addressed that. They will be very strong next year IMO.

We lacked a decent full back and experience and we're addressing that. We will be stronger next season.

Jordi Gomez: Sunderland to sign Wigan Athletic midfielder

Sunderland have agreed to sign Wigan midfielder Jordi Gomez on a three-year contract from 1 July.

The Spaniard's contract expires this summer and the 29-year-old will join the Black Cats as a free agent.

Gomez joined Wigan from Espanyol in 2009 after working with Latics boss Roberto Martinez on loan at Swansea.

He scored 11 goals last season, including penalties in the 2-1 FA Cup win at Manchester City and the semi-final defeat against Arsenal.

Who says Costa hits the ground running. How many supposed quality strikers have we seen struggle with the frantic pace of the Premier League.

Shevchenko, Soldado, Morientes come to mind. Im sure there are more.

Costa's not THAT good anyway IMO. Atletico have always been geared up towards getting their strikers firing and scoring goals.

Jose doesnt really set his sides up like that. Defence first, then the midfield....then a striker because it would probably be frowned on to not have at least one.

Costa is a completely different animal to those you mentioned. Don't get me wrong i think he's a scumbag & hope he has a mare.. but IMO not only is he a quality footballer, he's made for the tempo & rough n tumble of the premier league.

He's is the closest thing to Didier Drogba out there, except he is much dirtier. Mourinho wants a physical presence up top, a target man if you will. Costa will give the that & a good work rate.

Anyways, his personality on the pitch & the way he plays.. is perfect for Chelsea. no doubts he will become everyones most hated player in no time

Frank Lampard has agreed a free transfer to New York City - and Atletico Madrid marksman David Villa is set to join him.

The highly-decorated ex-Chelsea midfielder and the Spanish title-winning striker were at Manchester City's Carrington complex on Saturday to complete the internal formalities of their respective moves.

Lampard and Villa met with Jason Kreis, installed as New York City Head Coach back in January by the Premier League champions' Chief Executive Officer Ferran Soriano. Lampard broke off from his preparations with England for the World Cup to sort out his move.

Both deals are a huge statement of intent from City's US franchise which kicks off in the new Major League Soccer season next March.Lampard is understood to be have agreed to a basic wage significantly less than the £150,000-a-week that he picked up at Chelsea.

That pay packet is expected to be boosted substantially by bonuses however with the England midfielder's signing a massive coup.

Lampard's decision to quit London for the Big Apple signals the end of his 13-year association with the club he joined from West Ham for £11million in 2001.

Since then the 35-year-old midfielder has clinched three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League.

Chelsea's record scorer with 211 goals, Lampard has rejected a 12-month extension at Stamford Bridge after making 40 appearances in all competitions last season.

New York's capture of Villa is another massive coup with 32-year-old fresh from helping Atletico beat Barcelona and Real Madrid to the Spanish title.

Villa, who scored 13 goals last season, is also set to fly out to Brazil shortly for the World Cup with Spain, who are among the favourites.
