He stayed on the bench. The media over here is having live updates of everything he has done on the bench. There is going to be a madness when he gets to play and after his first goal there are probably going to be a public holiday. Madness.

I wonder at what age they sell him on? My guess 19

Former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti claims he never asked the club to sign Norwegian starlet Martin Odegaard.

The 17-year-old was the subject of a tug of war between Europe's top clubs last January but Real won the race for his signature, signing the prodigious teenager from Sromsgodset for a £3million fee.

Odegaard made one substitute appearance under Ancelotti in May 2015, but he hasn't played since and has instead been cutting his teeth in the club's B-team, Real Madrid Castilla, in the third tier of Spanish football.

In Ancelotti's latest book, Quiet Leadership, Ancelotti, who was sacked by Los Merengues last year, says Odegaard's recruitment was a marketing ploy.

"When [club president] Florentino [Perez] buys a Norwegian footballer, you simply have to accept it," Ancelotti said.

"Furthermore, the president decided that he would play three games with the first team as a public relations exercise.

"He could be the best player in the world, but I don't care because he was not a player who I asked for. That signing was a to do with PR."

Odegaard is expected to be sent on loan next season, with Spanish outlet AS claiming the player's father wants his son to join a club in either the Premier League or the Bundesliga.

Odegard’s father was adamant he joined Real Madrid. Absolutely immovably nailed on for Madrid. Where young careers go to die. Now he wants to bring his son back to life. Odegard himself was no wallflower, he was very much behind rejecting every sensible offer to go to Real eyes wide open too.

Hope Real price Odegard out for any PL or German team. Odegard needs to rot in Real’s reserves for many, many years to serve as a reminder for other youngsters. Just as SWP was in England.

Ridiculous comments. You cannot blame a 17 year old lad with the chance to join Real Madrid for actually doing so. I'd wager most 17 year olds in the world win the same opportunity would do exactly the same thing.

It hasn't worked out for him for whatever reason but blaming him for taking the chance of going there in the first place is laughable

The poor kid as already earnt more than most will in a lifetime.

He's put himself in a position where he can pick his future career moves based purely on where he wants to play, with money as a distant consideration. Not a bad fallback position to be in.

                          I'd do the same and I'm 39!

True but that's more the symptoms of the crazy state of football and the insane money being spent than what he's done

Ødegård is nothing but a overhyped youngster who has been whored round by his father for financial gain

All these negative comments may well be correct, but none of this is down to the kid, he's a product of the game and the media hype, and his Fathers leading hand.

Hope he can at least find a team he can call home and settle down to play football, it's the only way he'll show what he's truly capable of, good or bad, or he could end up becoming a piece of merchandise for his father/agent to get deal after deal to various clubs all based on the hype and promises of what he could become.
