I'm using this world cup as an excuse to take control of the TV and relax with a few drinks. I normally let the missus watch all the crap, while I work next to her. So, it's growing on me as I'm normally not a fan.

Brazilian officials say they confiscated 39kg (86lb) of caramel spread from Uruguay's football team as it arrived in Brazil for the World Cup.

The spread, called dulce de leche, is extremely popular in Uruguay but the Brazilian authorities said that as it was made with milk, it needed sanitary documentation which was lacking.

Some fans are already blaming Uruguay's shock 3-1 defeat to Costa Rica on the lack of dulce de leche.

Uruguay will play England on Thursday.

The dulce de leche was seized from the team after it landed at Confins airport near their training camp in Sete Lagoas.

An official with the Brazilian agriculture department told Reuters news agency that the Uruguayans could have the dulce de leche back "as soon as they can produce the necessary documents".

"Or they can pick it up on their way out of Brazil," the official added.

It is not clear if one person carried the entire 39kg-stash or if the jars of the popular sweet paste had been distributed between the players.

Former Uruguay goalkeeper Juan Castillo said the team had also taken dulce de leche to the World Cup in South Africa, where they had not had any problems at customs.

Dulce de leche is made by cooking down milk with sugar, baking powder and vanilla extract.

It is very popular spread on bread, pancakes and biscuits, or poured over fruit or ice-cream.

Is anyone else struggling to get into the WC at the moment?

I was really looking forward to it, I've watched almost every game yet now it's almost a week in I'm actually not particularly excited by it. Yeah we've had a few goals and some decent results and performances, but it's been a bit meh so far IMO.

Maybe it's because of the season we've just had and I just want 2014/15 to start.

Hopefully I'll get into it more as the competition progresses.

I find that all the teams play the same way, we're familiar with most of the players and the punditry is turd.

Ian Wright flies home from World Cup after knife-wielding burglars target wife and children.

The former Arsenal footballer and ITV pundit Ian Wright is reported to have flown home from Brazil after burglars with knives targeted his wife and children while he was away covering the World Cup.

Four men were believed to have broken into the former England star’s home in north-west London and “marched” his wife Nancy from room to room at knifepoint.

Wright has appeared prominently in ITV’s coverage of the tournament in Brazil, but The Sun today reported that the 50-year-old had got on the first available flight home after learning the gang “held a blade to Nancy’s throat”.

Last night the pundit, apparently reacting to the news, tweeted: “You won’t get away with it.”

Police are investigating the incident, during which the burglars are believed to have taken Nancy, 39, to one bedroom and the couple’s two girls to another room before escaping with a number of their possessions.

A spokesperson for Scotland Yard said: “We are investigating an aggravated burglary at an address in north-west London after we were called at 9.20 last night.

“Personal possessions were stolen. The suspects are described as four black men aged between 18 and 25, with London accents, wearing dark clothing and hoodies obscuring their faces.”

A number of Merseyside footballers have been targeted, including Everton and England defender Phil Jagielka, who was robbed at knifepoint at his Cheshire home in 2009.

The homes of England captain Steven Gerrard and then-Liverpool players Peter Crouch and Dirk Kuyt were also raided.

Watford midfielder Alexander Merkel was robbed on the doorstep of his home in Hampstead, west London, last month by a gang who tried to batter down his front door with mopeds.

Wigan Athletic player James McArthur had his FA Cup winner's medal stolen in a burglary at his home along with two wedding rings.

Swansea City head coach and former player Garry Monk was burgled in November last year while he underwent knee surgery.

And in 2005, former Bolton defender Mark Fish was tied up and robbed after his home appeared on TV show Footballers' Cribs. He was the second victim of raiders following an appearance on the MTV show after former England goalkeeper Ian Walker was also targeted.
