No sooner had the England party arrived at their hotel in Rio de Janeiro than one prominent member of the backroom staff was caught up in a very public argument. Having checked in to the team hotel half an hour earlier, Gary Neville, Sky pundit and one of Roy Hodgson’s assistants, went for a walk on São Conrado beach. He then told the football fans and photograpers following him to leave him alone. “Do you speak English? Back off. I just want to walk on the beach,” the former Manchester United and England defender shouted at one cameraman. The website Globoesporte also reported that he put his hand over one camera lens and continued to swear. Globo is Brazil’s biggest broadcaster. England be warned: it could be a taste of things to come for the next few weeks.
