I don't think signing Lambert was the right move, such a shame Origi had to be loaned back....but if we couldn't find anybody instead of him to be 3rd or 4th choice forward then promote a youngster like Kristoffer Peterson. Yea it would have been a risk but he had a lot of pace, did well getting in behind defences in pre-season and had he flopped it wouldn't really been to the clubs detriment because Lambert is getting hardly any minutes on the pitch at the moment.

Instead we paid 4 mil for a forward we won't get much mileage out of and subsequently let go a promising forward for supposedly very little.

Hindsight is great mate. When we signed Lambert, 90% of Liverpool fans had never heard of Peterson and those who watched the reserves and had heard of him would have known him as a decent winger at best who was used up front because of shortages in that department.

Last season we were painfully short in teh striker department at all levels, so we had to get bodies in. As the season ended, Lambert was scoring goals against United, City and looking good for England so there is no way anybody in their right mind would have thought anybody in a our reserves a better option, never mind Peterson.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

          I'd forgot about Origi tbh.

Point taken but i think Sterling hinted correctly that we miss Sturridges pace and ability to run behind the defence more than anything. Remy, Origi and even Peterson have that style. The latter would have always been an unlikely long-shot but that style of forward is something LFC needs atm.

Last season the team had 3 players in sterling Suarez and Sturridge who could get the ball under pressure and turn quickly. I'm not sure Balotelli is the same, he is much better when he gets the ball facing goal but doesn't have that same knack for it. Lambert doesn't and Borini's touch and lack of strength on the ball mean he doesn't.

I don’t disagree, but I think the idea was to play 3 up top, with Sturridge as the main striker and Remy (or similar) as cover and an option for one of the wide positions. Lambert was bought to offer something different in attack, in the sense that if things weren’t working during a match with Sturridge, there is no point in bringing on a similar player (Remy), we’d need to try a different approach. Therefore the transfer on paper made perfect sense, as he looked very good for Southampton. If the Remy deal had have fallen through before we bought Lambert, maybe it would have been a different story, certainly after we bought Balotelli I’m not so sure there would have been such a need for Lambert, but again that’s all great with hindsight.

It’s just unfortunate (if not unsurprising) that Sturridge got injured so early in the season as it would have been better to ease Lambert and Balotelli into action without changing our approach too much, but instead they have been added to an already disjointed team and we’ve had little time to adapt to their strengths or them to get used to our style (lesser so Mario). Remy on paper looked perfect at the time, even moreso now, but given time I think Mario will come good and if Lambert even shows half of his Southampton form, will still be a useful player.

(Sorry, badly rushed as I’m heading out door, not sure I even made the point I was planning)

I wasn't in favor of buying Lambert and was very surprised by our interest in his services but the negativity he gets is imo over the top.

He was never brought in to be a starter but to be an impact player and to provide some boost coming from the bench.

Lack of pace is clearly big issue but Lambert is much better player than what he has shown so far.

He is under great deal of pressure being a local boy who finally made it big and unfortunately not all players respond well to that type of pressure.

He needs to relax and just play but that is easier to say than to do.

Still think he can provide us with some decent support when call upon but to expect him to lead the line and score bunch of goals and assists as he did with Saints is imo highly unrealistic.

Personally, I'm glad we bought him, but I don't want us to play him.

Kenneth you are like an avuncular troll.

You should be reprimanded but I think you have earned goodwill.

You have to feel for Lambert right now.

He must have wondered his entire life what it would be like to play for Liverpool, you wonder how he he is enjoying finding out right now. Its just not happening for him at all, he looks miles away from the standard we require, he looks slow in the mind and the body. I hope it improves for him.

I was quite happy with his performance. He did alright considering our morale over the last few weeks. Sure he could have played a little better but he gave us presence in the box as a lone striker which Balotelli failed to do.

He'll do better in situations where we've got a team penned into their box.

I have to say I thought he was woeful today and really struggled with it all. I hope he gets his head right as at the moment the move has appeared a bit too much for him to deal with mentally.

He's a good player and a decent option to have but so far it's just not worked for him
