Fifa scandal: Michel Platini drawn closer to Blatter case
Michel Platini, the head of European football's governing body Uefa, is being treated as "in between a witness and an accused person'' by Swiss prosecutors investigating corruption at the world football authority Fifa.
Prosecutors accuse Fifa president Sepp Blatter of making a "disloyal payment" of $2m (£1.6m) to Mr Platini. Mr Platini has provided information to the investigation but said he did so as a witness. Both men deny wrongdoing.
Mr Platini has said he is still determined to run for Fifa president once Mr Blatter steps down. Asked whether criminal proceedings had been opened against him, Mr Platini said: "Absolutely not. I was heard last week by the Swiss Authorities only as a person providing information and I cooperated fully."
But this has been contradicted by the Swiss attorney general Michael Lauber.
"We didn't interview Mr Platini as a witness, that's not true. We investigated against him in between as a witness and an accused person."

Top Fifa sponsor calls for Sepp Blatter to step down as president immediately and for "comprehensive and urgent reform" following corruption allegations.
Coca-Cola, a top sponsor of Fifa, has called for Sepp Blatter to step down immediately as president of football’s governing body following a scandal involving alleged bribes and kickbacks.
Blatter’s departure would allow a “credible and sustainable reform process” to begin, the beverage giant said on Friday.
“Every day that passes, the image and reputation of Fifa continues to tarnish,” Coca-Cola said in an e-mailed statement. “Fifa needs comprehensive and urgent reform, and that can only be accomplished through a truly independent approach.”
The move follows a push by Coca-Cola for Fifa to adopt an independent commission that can reform the organisation and “win back the trust of all who love the sport”.

Visa head attacks Sepp Blatter and Fifa’s ‘wholly inadequate’ crisis response.
The head of the leading Fifa sponsor Visa has delivered a stinging attack on Sepp Blatter, claiming there can be no meaningful reforms until he leaves as president of the organisation.
Blatter is insistent he will remain in the position until the election of his successor on 26 February next year and this week announced a task force to bring in reforms. But the Visa chief executive, Charlie Scharf, said Fifa’s response to the corruption crisis had been “wholly inadequate” and joined fellow sponsors Coca-Cola in demanding a fully independent reform commission.
