I'd rather pay 6 million for Bertrand than 20 million for Moreno. Both deals are risky but I think Bertrand might surprise a few. That's 14 million difference there, we can use that to upgrade Borini.

Why Liverpool should avoid signing Chelsea left-back, Ryan Betrand.
It's got pretty pictures and everything.
Why Liverpool should avoid signing Chelsea left-back Ryan Betrand
Liverpool’s search for a new left-back took another turn recently, after talks with Alberto Moreno broke down leaving Ryan Bertrand as a possible candidate to step up.
With Jose Enrique only just returning to training and his injury history not one to look back on with fondness, Brendan Rodgers knows it is mind-numbingly obvious that the Reds hierarchy back him to bolster that specific area.
One of the heroes of Munich 2012, Bertrand had his big season for the Blues in 2011/12 but he has failed to build on that as he would have liked. The fleet-footed left-back was the ideal replacement for the ageing Ashely Cole, however, that vision has not come to fruition and his lacklustre loan spell at Aston Villa did little to back up his claim that he could be England’s finest on the left-hand side.
In the five months he spent at Villa, Bertrand made 16 appearances with a tough opening game away to Liverpool. The Villains raced into a two-goal lead, however, were pegged back and clung on to the point. While Bertrand didn’t light up the stadium he most certainly imposed himself in a Villa shirt and the future looked bright. But it never really got any better.
His Squawka Performance Score was a miserable -117 and while that could be pointed to Lambert’s leaky back-line, Bertrand never really covered himself in glory.
He was strong in tackling, winning 60% of the ones he attempted but 19 fouls. His pass accuracy was horrendous and at 74% he saw the number of misplaced passes in the Premier League reach 135 in just a few months.

Going forward he was none the better and while Jon Flanagan’s swash-buckling style did little to add to his potency going forward down the left, Bertrand failed to muster more than four created chances – none of them resulting in a goal.

With Flanagan more than likely to continue at left-back, it is interesting to see how Liverpool’s emerging youngster fared against the Villa loanee.

Per ninety-minutes Flanagan has been the better play with his Total Squawka Performance Score (4.72). Going forward Bertrand is renowned for his athleticism and ability to cause trouble down the left. However, despite playing in an unfamiliar role for the whole season, Flanagan has created 0.62 per game with Bertrand behind on 0.26.
Flanagan’s resolute defending has seen him curtail many an attack this season and he has won 2.81 tackles compared to 1.62 for Villa’s loanee. Bertrand’s pace allows him to react quicker and that is perhaps the reasoning behind him making more blocks, however, Flanagan’s maturity has helped his alertness and anticipation which has allowed him to muster more interceptions and have a dramatically better pass completion.
While Bertrand was playing in a Champions League final in 2012, Flanagan’s performances this season suggest that Liverpool would be taking a step down if they were to pursue the west London-based left-back.
The 24-year-old Chelsea man has a bright future, but there is a reason why Chelsea are not utilising their Englishman and that should be the reason why Liverpool look elsewhere or stick with Jon Flanagan.

Yep. About the same as Bertrand, then.
(And just to clarify, I wasn't saying we should target Rose.
Just that a name like that'll emerge at some point once we "give up" on Bertrand and "get knocked back" by Swansea for Davies, and it'll probably be us just kicking our tires while we wait out Sevilla. The interest in these players may well be legitimate in some manner, but it all feels very contrived especially since it keeps getting reported that we've not given up on Moreno.)
