Every Golden Ball winner has reached the semi-finals. All bar 3 reached final. History suggests James Rodriguez has no chance.

If that's the case then its going to be a difficult choice. James Rodriguez has been the absolute stand out for me by quite a distance. If it has to be a semi finalist, no matter how unpopular and annoying he is, its hard to look past Robben - he's been so effective for his team, inspiring them on and with seemingly limitless energy. Behind him, I'd go for the real star of the Argentinean team -Mascherano.

Di Maria being in the final shortlist hints at a lack of real quality this world cup

Aye.....wonderful player, but I much prefer to see him in his more natural fullback role as opposed to some of the tinkering in midfield that he's been doing, especially with Bayern.

Messi won 4 MOTM awards in the first 4 games for Argentina I think. He'll be there or there abouts.

I'd love to see Masch win it, he was awesome in the semi. Robben was good early on too, but his acting should count against.

No idea though, I guess it should be James. He probably was consistently good.

There's no real obvious stand out IMO. Good World Cup, but not one great team nor any real amazing stand out performers. Strange.
