Why is he seen as such a horrible character? I don't know much about him these days but his stats last year were pretty good. I'd be happy and relieved with Eto'o signing.

i personally don't think he is just after a payday to be honest.
I think he would turn down more money to play in the champions league. That is probably why he has been linked with Ajax.....there is no way they would pay him mega bucks. And if he wanted top top money and an easy payday, then he would go and sign for Man City's new york or melbourne franchise.....or he would have held Anzhi to their contract and sat it out there on 300k a week.
For me it is a no-brainer. If Sturridge gets injured then we are screwed with Lambert as the main top man. I watched him touch the ball a half a dozen times against Dortmund and he was very slow and looked off the pace a little bit. I am happy enough with Lambert as the guy to throw on for 10 mins at the end of a game we are chasing and lump it a little but if sturridge was out for a month, then i think we would struggle.
I wonder are the people saying that Eto'o is past it at 33 the same people that were delighted when we signed 32 year old Lambert for £4m.
Also, it would be a class "**** you" to Mourinho if Eto'o came to us and scored some important goals....

well yes that's why he's on a free. But his best was so good that the Eto now is much better than Borini will ever be. He brings massive experience and can still poach goals. It would be a stop gap signing.Originally posted by Maxiedge View Posthe's way past his best.
As for mercenary, you can include most African footballers in that bracket, just look at the world cup for evidence. They love cash and lots of it. The amount he was being offered in Russia was mental, not many would have turned it down. It is a negative of course but you have to trust Rodgers can gauge whether he would be just after the cash or whether he put a shift in too.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

I don't even think he was that good at Chelsea. Fair enough his goal record isn't that bad but with the amount of chances they were creating and playing with one striker, I think Borini would've scored a few too. He generally missed more than he scored.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View Postwell yes that's why he's on a free. Regarding the mercenary thing, well he's proven that he loves his money more than his football and that's not for me. I didn't think it was for LFC either.

I think he might be a good addition theoretically - there's a bit of the Karlheinz Riedle about it, and he does manage to score in big games, not least the hat trick against Man United.
As for keeping a hold of Torres ahead of him, there's so much more to that than just a black / white Fernando or Eto'o - for a start, Eto'o was offended by the Mourinho old strikers not scoring enough comment he made at the back end of the season - I can't imagine that made for a harmonious relationship. Also, Torres is still the Abramovich record signing on mega bucks, there might be a degree of sheer bloody minded persistence from Roman and Torres might not actually want to leave. You can't say the same about Eto'o.
Its still a bit uninspiring though.

I agree with everything in this post. Uninspiring but then so was Gary Mac, Riedle, Sean Dundee et al and all did a job. Could be a shrewd moveOriginally posted by Daniel 7 View PostI think he might be a good addition theoretically - there's a bit of the Karlheinz Riedle about it, and he does manage to score in big games, not least the hat trick against Man United.

He was worth every penny of the £2 million we paid for himOriginally posted by Buzzo View PostSean Dundee may have done a job, but it certainly wasn't as a footballer. Agree on Reidle and Gary Mac tho.

I reckon Etoo could be a decent signing for a season, if his wage demands are not to high. We really need some options up front, and getting as proven striker for free could be a good idea (even if he is a dick of the highest magnitude). Could provide us the needed cover and option, and not rule out another striker even,
