Totally. I have a massive issue with Mario as a footballer as everyone knows, but I think this is just nonsense about nothing, as is almost all the off-field stuff with the guy.

Of course the nonsense could have been avoided by someone with sense & foresight as you say, but lack of intelligence on the pitch is what actually deserves criticism imo, not someone who for all we know has never cooked himself a meal eating out when he's apparently had a sniffle.

Basically I think there is a good player in there somewhere, potentially very good. But even with a perfect temperament I could never see him becoming world class, I just don't think he has enough in his game to be that good.

If Mario ever woke up and played for the team he'd have the potential to be world class. People have been saying the same for years though.

Could do with a short loan to Palace or West Brom. Get running his arse off for the cause and he'd be dynamite. In fairness I've seen improvements during his time here, but going from nothing to something isn't good enough.

He needs to be all in. He needs to make the runs that allow the team to work. Self sacrifice. He needs to think before he blazes a thirty yarder wide. He needs to close people down.
