Its bull****, all it does is force consumers to pay for additional channels.

I have Sky Sports because of the other stuff they offer at the moment, but them losing 4pm games or Saturday evening games will probably be it for me.

How is this consumer choice? When the choice is between watching different games? Surely choice would be for the same packages on different channels, then people can make a choice. All it does at the moment is add to the pockets of the clubs and the stations showing them.

But move to America and every tossing game is on the same network.

It's the opposite in America for American sports. The NFL airs on multiple channels.

This fracturing of the broadcast rights is just another incentive to illegally stream, as like you said, it just forces people to pay for more channels for the same product.

I guess on the flip side we get all NFL games on Sky Sports, or through NFL.com. Each of which has Red Zone which is the single greatest invention in sports broadcasting.

I dont mind paying to watch Liverpool play. But I want to be able to choose how I do it. A model where you pay a single fee for your club, and that money gets evenly distributed to all sides in the league would work fine. You'd have to think it wasn't lucrative though, as they would have done it otherwise.

Its also pretty confounding that they dont have a 'Digital' rights package. Something with all the non broadcasted games on for people to watch.

Most of the NFL games are on free-to-air broadcasters in the States though as the NFL has an internal anti-siphoning policy. Only two games a week are allowed t be shown off-network. They obviously have less televised games as the season is far shorter. I think last year there were about 75 games shared between the three contracted broadcast networks (ABC don't show pro ball), and 17 on ESPN. NFL show Thursday games on their own network too, but I think some of those are simulcast.

Yeah, I knew they were mainly free-to-air. It's the same with the MLB. But the point was more that broadcasting rights are diluted.

                Announcement at 5pm this evening.

This is almost more exciting than watching Super Sunday.
                Oh I don't know.

For sure. It's an odd situation though. There are more broadcasters for less games than the PL, but the NFL keeps a tight rein on which games go where. The different networks have packages dictated by conference and geography, and all of the major nationally televised games (some games are only shown in certain markets, pre-empting scheduled programming, as the overall market is so much bigger than ours) have been Sunday night games on NBC in the most recent contract - though they have far fewer games (about ten a season) less than either Fox or CBS.
