From the beebOriginally posted by Rich View PostIf Ronaldo joins? Millions of shirts extra will be sold - he's a global superstar. It'll take PSG to the next level in terms of global popularity.
Another point to bear in mind is that this would not be a 'Galactico' move, where the value of commercial endorsements and merchandise sales would help a club recoup money spent on the transfer fee.
Ronaldo comes surrounded by a group of very well-informed advisors, who already have all various commercial deals in place. For a potential buyer like Manchester United, they might look to leverage something from the story of his return to the club, somehow make that commercially attractive, but we are scratching around on the margins really.
Where you can start to make leverage on players is when they are younger - which is why a player like 18-year-old Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe would be a far more attractive proposition. A buying club knows they can make an awful lot back.I make no apologies, this is me

whenever i rarely have talksport on that myth o football shirts sales does my head in. some guy came on and said Pogba paid back his transfer fee in 3 weeks through shirt sales and whoever was presenting didnt argue.
i mean how does anyone in there think that Pogba would sell probably a billion shirts in 3 weeks ( taking into account the club might make 10/15% on each one.)_____________________________________
Weak willed, Wank or do they have a masterplan?
Think we have the answer..Slot!!

It probably has an effect on some sponsorships etc, if timed right when renegotiating etc. We sometimes hear how Nike or Chevrolet etc will part fund a deal if they think it increases brand awareness, but totally agree, in todays market not enough to recoup the sort of fees we're seeing. I was disputing the idea that Mbappe would be a better commercial option than Ronaldo."that is my opinion and that is more important than what anyone else has to say about it" - Mr A.Fergusson, Oct 2011

The ones they sell directly in shop or online from the Club stores are probably around 50% profit.
The ones sold in Sports direct, yeah, lucky if the club get 10% of the sale price. Vendor markup is usually 50%, then the manufacturer gets the most with distributors taking their cut.
It may be 1000% markup between production cost and sales price but the club don't get all that."that is my opinion and that is more important than what anyone else has to say about it" - Mr A.Fergusson, Oct 2011

It's based on a flawed assumption anyway. If a club sells a million shirt with Ronaldo on it wouldn't they have likely sold most of those anyway if he wasn't there, just with a different player on it?
How many people actually go "**** yes, we signed Ronaldo, I must buy a shirt with his name on" as opposed to "**** yes, we signed Ronaldo, when I get my shirt I'll stick his name on".

When we signed Manninger, I said '**** yes', then went straight out and bought last year's keeper top.Originally posted by EwarWoo View PostIt's based on a flawed assumption anyway. first of all, it needs to be cleared up that United don’t get all of the revenue from shirt sales, far from it. Adidas don’t pay the club £75 million for nothing. In fact, the industry standard is for the kit provider to receive 85-90% of all revenue from shirt salesOriginally posted by foresterbloke View Post15%?

Yeah, but Nike/Addias/NB etc make them, then sell to a distributor, who (roughly) doubles the price, they go to a vendor who again (Roughly) doubles the price.
On a £40 shirt, the manufacturer might get £10, probably costs £1-2 to make and then the club might get a cut of that £8-9 that's left.
I doubt they get anything on the lettering/player names
(Except where the club is also the vendor - club shop/website)"that is my opinion and that is more important than what anyone else has to say about it" - Mr A.Fergusson, Oct 2011
