whenever i rarely have talksport on that myth o football shirts sales does my head in. some guy came on and said Pogba paid back his transfer fee in 3 weeks through shirt sales and whoever was presenting didnt argue.

i mean how does anyone in there think that Pogba would sell probably a billion shirts in 3 weeks ( taking into account the club might make 10/15% on each one.)

It probably has an effect on some sponsorships etc, if timed right when renegotiating etc. We sometimes hear how Nike or Chevrolet etc will part fund a deal if they think it increases brand awareness, but totally agree, in todays market not enough to recoup the sort of fees we're seeing. I was disputing the idea that Mbappe would be a better commercial option than Ronaldo.

The ones they sell directly in shop or online from the Club stores are probably around 50% profit.

The ones sold in Sports direct, yeah, lucky if the club get 10% of the sale price. Vendor markup is usually 50%, then the manufacturer gets the most with distributors taking their cut.

It may be 1000% markup between production cost and sales price but the club don't get all that.

Well I didn't know that!

I assume shirts cost **** all to make (like $10 at most) and sell for stupid money.

Yeah, but Nike/Addias/NB etc make them, then sell to a distributor, who (roughly) doubles the price, they go to a vendor who again (Roughly) doubles the price.

On a £40 shirt, the manufacturer might get £10, probably costs £1-2 to make and then the club might get a cut of that £8-9 that's left.

I doubt they get anything on the lettering/player names

(Except where the club is also the vendor - club shop/website)
