It would help the game in this country by not holding up finishing fourth as some kind of success. Another of the big teams would miss out and so level the playing field for the rest of the league. Top players from around the world so desperate for champions league football would either continue to come and sit in big squads of the 3 in the CL places or stay away. Thus meaning the leagues abroad would have better players, maybe a chance for more homegrown to get a chance here. This league has money and so called top players. Yet its never been poorer for quality. It's all good although it makes it harder for us.

I understand the sentiment and I certainly don't think of 4th as being a victory but I don't agree.

English players that are good enough will get a chance to play in top clubs. Look at Sterling, Chelsea want to buy Stones from Everton so any English player good enough can make it!

Many argue that one of the reasons our clubs haven't been successful in the Champions League recently is because the EPL IS so competitive so the English CL clubs have to invest so much energy and time preparing for league games to stay in the CL. Their are no easy games in the EPL like in Spain where Barcelona and Madrid don't share the TV revenue or France that just has one big club etc.

I don't understand how you can say the EPL is poorer for quality. A few years ago we had teams like Bolton and Stoke closing down games and playing defensive to ensure they stayed in the league.

Now we have teams like Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich trying to stay in the league playing good football and clubs like Southampton & Swansea consistently challenging near the top playing good football.

Liverpool finished 4th in 2003/2004 to qualify for the 2004/2005 Champions League, which we won in Istanbul.

I don't think any Liverpool supporter needs any other reason for us to want the EPL to retain qualification to the CL with a 4th place finish.

I know it's not the conversation point, but I would quite happily see us never play in Europe if we were challenging for the league regularly. And I would be just as happy to watch us play without the likes of suarez, hazard, Martial, Sanchez, Costa etc being on the pitch every week.

Some people seem to be more fans of the PL than clubs and I blame sky for that, I couldn't give a **** which the best league in the world is or which league attracts the best players from south America etc. I hope the bubble bursts and we can get back to a more simple game that people can afford to watch.

Its catch 22 isn't it?

You need top players to win the league, and to attract them you need Euro footy. Once you get in, you then need a decent squad to sustain the challenge on both fronts.

Football is broken.

They may as well get all of the owners of the top clubs together at the start of the season and ask them to compare who has the biggest yacht/hottest wife... biggest cock... or all three... and hand out the Champions League and domestic cups based on the results.

They rely on the faithful (idiotic) masses turning up each week, or sitting at home paying money to Murdoch/BT in the vain hope of seeing something special.
