I'd suggest Teixeira by making this highly lucrative move to China has shown he's not particularly bothered about testing himself against the best players in the world, in the most competitive competitions and instead, he's happy to play in an inferior league for vast sums of money.

Signing for Jiangsu Suning isn't a sign of ambition.
He'll be back in Europe in 18 months.

and btw, the type of player I want playing for me needs to be skilled and committed but also have ambition - something most of the best players have in spades.

For £38m I'd want all the attributes, not most. Hence, I'm pleased we missed out on him.

I think its the idea that the pinnacle of the game is in Europe and South America. So moving to somewhere that the football is of a poor standard shows he is interested in money before success. Which is fine, as financial success to some people is what they desire (I know I would prefer to be paid more)

He's moved for the money, not to further his non existent international career. But Rich's comment seems to me to be aimed and players who want to win things as opposed to earn the most money. As football fans I think we would all class a better mentality as wanting to win.

So yeah, players like that are better off away from us because I think we need ones who want to win.

Give the guy a break - it was probably his 'dream' to play in the Chinese football League
Oh triffic......so while you're up the road jollying it up, it's touch your toes time for Rodney

I'm not so sure that such clean lines can be drawn. People can have different motivations over different timescales.

I'd also suggest for example that Ibrahimovic is not at PSG for the challenge but the cash. I still think he has a winning mentality on the pitch (whatever other flaws I might suggest he has).

For the first time in recent years the cash in football and the position of some clubs to win has become decoupled. Sadly we are in the top tier in either camp. I would guess Teixeira has a better chance of winning things in China for what that is worth.

I'm sure we will hear this at his first press conference

He's a professional sportsman with a very limited shelf life - born in South America with probably no allegiance to any club outside his country...

We didn't meet the clubs asking price; the Chinese did - see ya & good luck to you

Like anyone on here would turn down £275k a week!
What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

                      We avoided Carrol Mk IV.

So much for wanting to play for Brazil then.

Trophies ? Doesn't he want to win trophies that matter and people have heard of ?

                        Nope, just the cash please.

This is not what sport is meant to be about, but probably what it's all about for most.

That's quite a colonial way of thinking, don't you think?

                                I think it is.

There's a massive sense of superiority at play and entitlement at play.

                                The world is changing.
