The Chinese seem to be really pushing, the likes of Ramirez, Guarin and Martinez I thought were very decent but Teixera is a step up, he's been a machine of late and he's at a better age. I wonder how far they'll push? I know the government in China are pushing sport, in particularly football so it could take off in a big way.

I hope not, because we all want the best players to be over here, there is already more than enough competition for the big names. Maybe they'll do a Porto and snap up the South American market before its available to us.

Only one reason he's gone to China, you can talk about colonialism all you like.

To make out it's Colonialism to call it as it is is plain daft, the Prem, Spain, Germany ARE the best leagues as we stand, it's about the here and now, i don't say he should come because the Premiership is in England, the fact is that above leagues are where the better players play, and want to play, it's gives them money and challenging football, with a view to winning the titles that matter today.

So for him to go to China now, is going for the money imo, he got noticed due to our interest, and he's made some cash, he's happy to do that fair enough, he's set up for life now, but please don't try and tell me he went for anything but a big pay packet, or that it's colonialism to think so.

Extrapolating this further, if this is the first of a wave of high profile signings by the Chinese, this could have serious inflationary consequences in the football world globally.

I think there is a big difference between the fans (emotion is key), the spectacle (again emotion is a bit part) and the professional lives of the players.

I think the point that Dom is making is how true is the statement long term. If the Chinese league buys many of the worlds best players then it becomes a big thing to win. The assumption that toiling in PL obscurity is better than being a successful part of an exciting growing league because of history feels loaded with the same assumptions that do accompany more genuinely colonial views of the world.

It's not because of history. Its because of the comparative strengths of the leagues now and the likelihood that China can become a football powerhouse in the 6 or 7 years he's got left in his career.

I dont think that's colonial thinking, or similar. Longterm China may well dominate the world in every sphere but at the moment they've got a lot of catching up to do in the football world, despite the money they're throwing at it.

That is most likely what will happen, tap into the South American market, this is mana from heaven for the super agents (Mendes, Zahavi, Joorabchian) and the third party ownership groups such as Doyen. There will be very little regulation and transparency there and money will be thrown at anyone who can broker the deal. Mendes in particular has been to China many times recently arranging a sponsorship deal with the Portuguese 2nd division and his finger prints are all over these recent transfers (Rameries & Martinez).

We really need to get Mino Raiola onto this one so he can get Balotelli over there as a star attraction!

You did imply that European trophies are more important than Chinese ones (i.e they 'matter' more).

To a European, of course they matter more.

To a Brazilian, why should they?

There are differences in quality right now of course. But it looks like the Chinese are taking their first steps to address that. So they have to start somewhere. And if a player wants to go there as part of that process, whether it's financially motivated or not, then that's their prerogative. It's part of the process which could see the two continents become far more equal in terms of quality in the not too distant future.

So by dismissing any player or club who chooses to take part in that process as a greedy money grabber, you are questioning their right to do so. The Chinese have to start somewhere.

And when it boils down to it, if LFC offered more money, we'd have a triumphant 'Welcome to LFC' thread to post in.

Not many footballers turn down the chance to earn more money, so singling this player out for doing it also seems like sour grapes to me.

Why not just stay in Brazil? They have the best players in the world, but they don't pay so well.

It's their decision to build a new stand that will basically only add corporate seats (and ****ing street food stalls WTF?!?) doing nothing to solve the problem of access which has caused the atmosphere at Anfield to die.

And it's their decision to put prices up whilst serving up dross football year after year.
