Yep. And them losing rather than drawing means we are 5 points beind so a draw would mean we go ahead with a superior goal sifference/scored - assuming of course we won our game in hand as well.

We finished 7th then he got sacked. With the exception of his first season (when we won the CL), the only season he finished outside the top 4. That was when all the G&H **** was fully kicking off. Then ****in Bodge arrived.

I think going back to my point abou the rant being the turning point, I think I made the point too bluntly in hindsight and should have elaborated. Yes, the results continued well after and we were more than unlucky not to win it, but the results part might have come anyway as the team was on a roll. Something might have happened in the summer to come, but my belief is that the explosive nature of the rant was most likely the turning point for Benitez the man himself (but not the team for the rest of that season).
