I was kind of inferring that. I don't know if they're actually corrupt but the optics and the position they've put their integrity into is staggering. I can't believe no one has questioned it.Originally posted by rudedog View PostEspecially when these jaunts are being entirely funded by Abu Dhabi/Sheik Mansour.
Let's say Salah put a grand on wolves beating city. I reckon he'd be banned for six months.
Integrity is paramount, unless it's a referee. I hope the media throw a spotlight on them all, cos it's fishy as ****.

Some investigative journo needs to expose how much they were paid and by whom. Obviously the tax position should be cleared up too…Originally posted by labourRed View PostI was kind of inferring that. I'm thinking that referees and the other officials should get fined for bringing the game into disrespute, when they make these howlers. Because that is what they are doing. The reputation of the game is in tatters.
Why should it be the people who have to deal with their incompetence on a regular basis that get the fines?
That said, there is a fundamental process issue at play here. The protocols that are in place are clearly not sufficient when cock ups of such a magnitude can take place so regularly.
I saw someone mention that there should be specialist VARs and specialist on pitch refs. Separate the roles and train people appropriately. That's not a bad shout.Oh I don't know.

What about ex players in there as well? Don’t know if it works of helps. But considering all the ex players I’ve seen saying the Jones red shouldn’t have happened and clearly explaining their thought process would that help with some decisions where having played at a good level, not necessarily the top level, can help come to a proper decision.

I'm not sure most ex players even have a grasp of the rules these days. They spend a lot of time disagreeing with decisions but the rules themselves (handball, offside etc).Originally posted by peterbread View PostWhat about ex players in there as well? And they might have a point sometimes. The rules are an ass.
But I don't think having pundits in the room will help personally.
Get a proper process in place with clear rules of engagement, and train the people to do their job properly. Just like you would in any other profession.Oh I don't know.

That’s true they can be very inconsistent between themselves. I really don’t know how they fix it. Goal line technology is great and makes a difference and we know it works. Hopefully the automated offside can bring this to offsides but should or can you use it for decisions that people still can’t agree on after watching multiple replays and even after days on from the incident. Maybe they need to strip it back and use it for fewer things at least from the time being.Originally posted by dom9 View PostI'm not sure most ex players even have a grasp of the rules these days. I wonder if the linesman called offside yesterday as he was well I’m not sure if it’s off but VAR will fix it if I’m wrong and he’s relying on the backup. Is it making them question themselves and the decisions they make and taking a safe option knowing VAR is there.

Wissa jumps in front of the keeper just as he's about to kick the ball, not really sure what the keeper did wrong?Originally posted by spud_gun View Posthttps://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comm...and_takes_out/

Yeah but if you jump Infront of someone as they are about to kick then you've invited the contact surely?Originally posted by spud_gun View PostHe kicked an opposition player?
Generally you're not allowed to do that.....though the rules of the game seem to be made up as we go along at the moment.

What's the alternative here? Let the keeper kick the ball out at his leisure?Originally posted by rudedog View PostYeah but if you jump Infront of someone as they are about to kick then you've invited the contact surely?
The opposition player had every right to go for the ball, he did and he won it cleanly.
The keeper committed what should have been a foul as a result of his sloppy play
