They can though can't they? Every single time they go to the pitch-side monitor (bar once, I think), they overturn their original decision.

Not saying it's good, cos the whole thing is a cluster****. But it seems once it's gone to VAR, and especially the monitor, we all know the on-field decision is getting overturned. It's like the whole charade is cosmetic, performative.

True, but for a VAR decision, take it from either the head or the foot, which ever is furthest forwards UNLESS the goal is scored with a part of the body not within this region and that part of the body is visibly further forwards. In these circumstances, use that part of the body as reference.

yeah ok i sort of agree, i think the frustration is the crass offside & handball rulings; i have yet to see a ref go over & look at an overturned offside decision. i think they should & then be allowed to use common sense (Hendo goal, Bamford goal, etc)

I'm not a defender of VAR but to be fair it is the changes to the rules that are the problem, mostly the changes to the handball rule, it has now become a nonsense. It results in stupid penalties like the one we saw against Gomez at the weekend. Under the current rules that is a 'clear pen' but last year or any other previous year it's clearly not a pen. VAR just enables the referees to see it and highlights the stupidity of the rule. This change to the handball rule is also what has resulted in these stupid offside calls like the Bamford one and probably the Mane one in the derby (although I still can't see that one).

The tight offsides one is a VAR issue though for me this comes from the officials and those involved in the VAR system not knowing (or not acknowledging) it's limitations. I have suggested a better way to use the existing technology for offsides to make it a little fairer and give the benefit of the doubt to the attacker but they wouldn't go for it.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Some analysis here confirming once more that we’re being shafted rather than benefiting from VAR.

The common retort to that is "just shows how much on-field referees favour Liverpool"

I saw a headline saying (from who ever the head of referees is) that they may need 10 years to perfect VAR.

                  10 years

Talk about buying yourself some time. ...."well I think you will find I did say this would take about a decade to get right".

It could be instantly fixed with a dose of common sense and an ability for a referee to take a decision on merit, even if it is VAR referred. Throw in some common sense on pens and hand ball. I don't think it seems difficult at all.

10 years FFS. Imagine scaling that project. Don't be expecting much for years 1 through 4, we will kick into action on years 5-8 and have some actual tangible results years 9 and 10.

Give me the gig and I reckon I can have it up and running by next weekend

VAR could be massively improved overnight, just by only having it intervene on clear and obvious mistakes.

Salah vs Brighton, VAR says nothing. Mane vs Brighton, VAR overrules.

It’s had to comprehend what a massive pig’s ear they’ve made of it.

100% agree, it is an embarrassment and the PL are standing by and letting it continue. The European Super League is more likely to become a reality if they do take a decade to sort it out!

Adopting the Eredivisie system would sort the offside fiasco out straight away.
As would only showing the ref real time replays on the pitch-side monitor.

We are here for a good time not a long time....

                        Offsides:

Until the technology is there to get things right, scrap the stockley Park ****. Ref and two linos watch a replay, vote anonymously via a simple device if it's on or off, majority wins. Could even be extended to the 4th official and VAR assistant, but I don't think that's necessary..
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Just sounds like more faff and time

Just have VAR judge by eye. Does it look clearly offside on the replay without involving technical lines? No, then let it go. Yes, tell the on pitch officials.

                            Well that would work too.

Not as dramatic though than waiting 30 seconds for teh votes to come in.
