Bilic is likely to end up doing time for murdering a ref the rate West Brom are getting these decisions. They’ve had some shockers.

Really not sure what to make of that incident. He did seem to kick out deliberately, but wasn't particularly aggressive. A booking probably appropriate, but then he ended up on the floor through a dive in the first place so don't have much sympathy.

Not for all throw in's but in this case it would have been like looking to see if there was an offside or foul in the build up to a goal, it seems comparable. If we are disallowing goals because someone's toenail is offside then a question of whether the ball went out of play is IMO equally valid if not actually more important.

Obviously there is a question of what VAR should and shouldn't review and I'm not necessarily saying VAR should have more power if anything I would prefer less. But it highlights a flaw in the implementation of the rules and or VAR
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It wasn’t really meant as a serious comment Just saying the last thing I’d want to see is even more VAR reviews over debatable throw ins.

But yes, that example last night was a serious mistake. The linesman messed up badly.

He was clearly nudged while leaning over. Probably not a fould but doesn't have to automatically make it a dive.

It doesn't have to be automatically a dive, no, but I think he dived.

There's a lot of comparison with Maguire's, and how he got nothing, but I think this one was much more obviously deliberate.

Think it was MOTD yesterday with Wright and Jenas discussing it. Wright didn't like that it was red but Jenas made a good point about taking away the subjective nature of it to make it easier for refs, in that any retaliatory action of that nature is red, to remove any ambiguity and inconsistency from match to match. Sadly tho, that won't happen as next weekend we will see something similar, probably by a bigger team, go unpunished.

I didn't even really see it as a kick. It was more of a recoil/release movement

Yeah I'm not sure it was a kick either, there is some movement of the leg but that's inevitable and I couldn't say with any degree of certainty whether it was a voluntary or involuntary movement. Using VAR to look at these things in slow motion makes it look worse but even so I'm not sure there is anything in it, that's a very harsh one IMO. As is mentioned above it's requires common sense as with alot of refereeing and VAR is taking that away.

I think that is Jenas' point, that common sense is subjective and this is why we see inconsistency from one match to the other, whereas putting a line in the sand and saying "cross this line and you're out" is the only way VAR can be applied across the board in an even manner. And the only place a line can be drawn in that case is at 'any retaliation', otherwise you start getting into opinions again.

Seen it suggested that the push happened outside the box, but the pen was given for the tangle of legs that took place inside the box afterwards...

Instant VAR karma after they stole a pen against us.

Not sure that’s quite how it was supposed to be set up though.

For me it was debatable, and possibly a penalty, but the fact it took so long and that 20 looks at it doesn't really decisively tell you one way or another should surely mean that the original decision doesn't get overturned. It was in no way clear and obvious.
                                Thanks very much for being
