          Good interview from GON.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Credit to O'Neil for the way he dealt with that immediately after the match. It highlights, yet again, that VAR is not about making the right decision.

The sooner they ditch the clear and obvious stuff in the box, the better. Just get the ref to go and have a look, in slow-mo, and draw his own conclusions. VAR can have a quick look, and if there's no issues at all, goal is given, otherwise the ref can see it again from the relevant angles. Do this for penalties and debatable goals, and the issue is done.

                Stop protecting the refs feelings.

The VAR officials are professional refs, just let them make the right bloody call and tell everyone in the stadium why. Sending the on pitch ref to the monitor is just wasting time, if they are sent to the monitor 99% of the time the decision is reversed anyway.

They are all professionals yes, but every ref views the game in his own way, so let the original ref decide, rather than a separate official who may not have the same leniency/harshness as the man in the middle. That way the game is refereed by one official, so no side gains an advantage from a third party interfering.

I've probably not worded that very well, but hopefully you get the gist of what i'm trying to say.

What I like about the ref viewing it himself is that the buck stops with him then. He’s the on field ref and he’s made the final call on var, there’s one person who’s owned the whole decision, and one person to blame if it’s wrong.

However their protocol is stupid- especially the “clear and obvious” nonsense. If it is a clear and obvious error, then it’s fair enough to argue that the ref shouldn’t need a second viewing- you would think that’s what clear and obvious means.

I honestly think they put in the clear and obvious thing so that they can use it to get out of any dubious calls. They don’t have to defend the standpoint that they think the on field decision is correct- can say they don’t think it was a clear and obvious error, and it’s hard for any pundit/fan to argue that it was not just an error, but enough of an error to be clear and obvious.
                      I don't tip

I get it. The issue there is we will still suffer inconsistent decision making as they will be less inclined to over-rule their own original decision. We have all the tech and the system is still not about making the right decision in a consistent manner.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
