TBH, I'm not too worried that they won, as much as I'd have loved them to drop points.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostHow did Chelsea win? Brentford smashed them.
It remined me a bit of United against Wolves, or Newcastle to a lesser extent. Wolves were the better side Newcastle didn't deserve to lose 4-1. When this was highlighted, typically the response was 'they are still ahead of us', 'playing poor and getting 3 points is the sign of champions' etc. It was evident that they were tactically naive, relying on individual brilliance and of course luck, which isn't sustainable over the course of the season.
Chelsea are similar IMO, although polar opposite tactically. They are relying on their doggedness and organisation and the individual brilliance of their players is being sacrificed to a degree to suit Tuchel tactics. So far, it's working, but again I don't think it's sustainable. I don't think it's possible to overthrow us and City playing so conservatively. Maybe 10 years ago it would have worked, but I don't see them reaching the heights us and City are capable of.
I could be wrong, but even when we lose, I don't remember us being dominated that often (bar the odd random result). Teams can have success by getting their tactics right (sitting deep, bypassing midfield, targeting space behind FB's etc.) and teams will have a period of pressure during a game, but I don't recall us being totally dominated like Chelsea were against City and in the 2nd half against Brentford last night. The same applies to City, which is why I just don't see Chelsea finishing above both of us.
People like Kenneth will point to the table and argue otherwise and TBF, Chelsea should remain top for a good while with the upcoming fixtures. However, if we play to our capabilities and can navigate through ACN relatively unscathed, I just can't see Chelsea living with us. If we don't, it won't matter what Chelsea do as we won't be in the title race, so those 3 points against Brentford will make little difference to us.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
