I guess it would depend. But in this instance he blew the whistle after the player had taken the ball and just before he kicked it in. That 1-2seconds wouldnt have changed anything even if he hadnt blown. It should stand for me.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostProblem is what do they give in that situation? Even if VAR looked at it they couldn't award the goal as play was stopped before the ball went in the net. For this one it was cut and dry that he was going to score (he did put the ball in the net) but in other situations it might not have been so clear cut. It would require the rules to change to allow the officials to give goals on the basis that someone would almost certainly have score even if they didn't which many people would see as problematic, and in less clear cut situations there are interpretation issues.
This is kind of the opposite side to the argument about the Forest offside and injury a couple of weeks ago, in that case people were wanting the official to flag for offside immediately, in this situation you don't want the ref to stop play immediately.

As with our disallowed onside/offside vs spurs, which couldn't be rectified because the game had restarted, there has to be some leeway for common sense to be applied. I get that this introduces some grey area, but there are cases that just need some flexibility instead of 'oops, there's just nothing we can do'. People are fallible and systems need to factor that in instead of hiding behind bureaucracy.Last edited by Kenneth; 26-05-25, 06:04 PM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Wasn’t there an incident with Bayern and Arsenal with a handball by mistake from a goal kick where it was not given because of a bit of common sense from the ref and he realised it wasn’t on purpose.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostAs with our disallowed onside/offside vs spurs, which couldn't be rectified because the game had restarted, there has to be some leeway for common sense to be applied. Manure getting booed off
A second-half goal from Myanmar winger Maung Maung Lwin was enough to give a South East Asia XI victory in front of an official attendance of 72,550 at the Bukit Jalil Stadium, triggering boos from a substantial portion at the final whistle from fans who had paid up to £260 to watch United on their first visit to Malaysia since 2009.
