Winning the Asian Cup was massive for football in Australia. I will never forget that night. How many countries have won international tournaments? And don’t knock the levels, Australia isn’t the power house of football in Asia. There are plenty of countries well ahead of them.

Being from Brisbane and seeing first hand what he did for that club and the levels he took football to in the country should never be underestimated. He not only won two titles in 2 1/2 seasons but the football they played was brilliant and set a new unbeaten record across all sports in Australia and raised the levels of the A league.

England isn’t the standard for football and what people are capable of in this league doesn’t define their careers. A manager that can win multiple league titles across different countries and a European trophy isn’t ****. No one said he was world class but he’s won league titles across his career and apart from Celtic hasn’t been working at the top clubs in the leagues he’s won.

That was an interesting one. Again, great to win it, but qualified as hosts, beat Oman, Kuwait, China the UAE, and one loss and one win Vs South Korea as the home side. South Korea being the only game you could characterise as a bit of an upset.

What he does have is force or personality that is probably better suited for international management, and maybe for short stints in club football, but in terms of tactical nous he's borderline clueless. Top divisions in a major European league is way over his head.
