I'm just trying to work out the maths if not signing anyone means we finish 3rd.

Lets say we dont sign anyone. We just had a game where Konate was injured, bradley was injured, and TAA luckily was just coming back but had every chance of still being out. We put gomez and quansah in and we let in more goals in a game than we've done all season in any other game, unless I'm forgetting one.

Now picture if VVD or Robertson get injured, especially with tsimikas injured too. Absolutely screwed. And with everton coming up anything can happen there. Konate and Bradley probably wont be back till end of january. What happens if graven gets injured? Or Salah or someone else goes into a mid season slump which can happen. All I'm saying is theres more chance of at least 1 player getting injured than no players getting injuyred. Our backups are wafer thin. If something like that happened how exactly do you see this team keeping first place?

There is confidence in us keeping our top spot and then theres reality. Many things can go wrong. Why exactly shouldnt you take precautions and sign someone? Also new players bring in new ideas and energy.

I mean I'm all for bringing back big Nat Phillips since we'll absolutely win the title with him in it! VVD gets broken during everton game? No problem. Step up general Nat just like the last time!

Our squad is and always has been thin in certain areas, another defensive injury is a big problem, Gravenberch looks knackered and at present we don't really have much capacity to rotate up front with Jota and Chiesa out it's 3 from 4, we need to start trusting Endo in some games and giving minutes to Elliott to allow other people to have a rest. The derby postponement helped a bit and with suspensions for MacAllister in the Fulham game and in Europe, he should have a couple of weeks off to recharge.

A couple of signings in wouldn't go a miss, but we need to get contracts for Salah, VVD and TAA sorted and know where we stand as if the budget has to find replacements for them I doubt there will be much to got around...

They lost 2-0. Guardiola is a genius when he has the right players, not so much when faced with adversity. It puts last season's run in a far better light but no-one seems to want to highlight this.

Sure its nice to say we'd be thrilled to be in this position if it was offered at the start of the season. But we're here, not at the start. We should be more worried about keeping it and improving if possible. But like I mentioned before we were at this same spot a few seasons back and because we didnt strengthen at the beginning or january, we ended up throwing it all away.
