Yeah, absolute shocker from how it was described on the radio. Obviously they might not have held on to win but they would have been in a very strong position

Just seen it, shocking decision and VAR couldn't look at it as the ref blew the whistle before the ball was in the net. They missed out on CL on GD, if that goal had stood they get something out of the game and make the CL.

Hopefully City get a decent punishment and Villa end up qualifying in their place.

They need to change the rule that var cant do anything if its clearly wrong just to save the poor refs feelings. Its worse everyone knowing hes wrong and not being able to change it as the ref skips around like an 8 year old who thinks he knows more than everyone around him.

I wonder how much Rogers would cost?

Quoted at 100m ish, I can see likes of City or maybe even Chelsea going for him. Looks a real talent.

Problem is what do they give in that situation? Even if VAR looked at it they couldn't award the goal as play was stopped before the ball went in the net. For this one it was cut and dry that he was going to score (he did put the ball in the net) but in other situations it might not have been so clear cut. It would require the rules to change to allow the officials to give goals on the basis that someone would almost certainly have score even if they didn't which many people would see as problematic, and in less clear cut situations there are interpretation issues.

This is kind of the opposite side to the argument about the Forest offside and injury a couple of weeks ago, in that case people were wanting the official to flag for offside immediately, in this situation you don't want the ref to stop play immediately.

He was at Citeh before joining Middlesborough and then Villa

Would be surprised if Citeh go back in for him at that sort of price especially since they let him go for something like 10m

They play on even if its offside, then check afterward.
They could have just let it roll and then either give the goal or var would rule it out.

They could, but this is what I'm saying about the Forest one a couple of weeks back, people were complaining that he got injured because the officials didn't stop the play when it was clearly offside, we can't have it both ways.

I don't have the answers the problem seems to be that now we have VAR and so many replays, angles etc we know almost immediately that a decision is wrong but the mechanism isn't there to fix it properly which people are now finding difficult, a few years ago we just had to accept the officials had made a mistake and accept it.
