    New Refereeing Guidelines

What are peoples thoughts on the new refereeing guidelines?

    1) Adding on more realistic added time.
I’m all for this. I think it was pretty good in the World Cup. It can be really frustrating when you’re chasing a game and there’s not the right amount of time added on. Will be interesting to see how it takes it’s toll on players fitness though, if they’re playing an extra 10 min or so each game. Early on, it might take players time to adapt, knowing how much juice to leave in the tank and there might be some late late winners due to tired legs and that. Also it might change managers substitute strategies- 75min might be the new 60min!

    2) Booking players for time-wasting
I like the sound of this, but Trent’s yellow yesterday was a joke- and Nouri for wolves today booked for taking too long to take a throw in too. In both cases they weren’t taking excessively long to take it, and clearly weren’t trying to waste time, but just looking for the best option. Rashford crawled off the pitch when subbed tonight, but wasn’t booked. Were any keepers booked for taking too long with their kickouts? Feel like throw ins is a weird one to crack down on.

    3) Booking players for complaining to the ref
I like the idea of this, but seen a few players booked for gesturing a yellow card. I don’t really get it, like how come you can gesture that it’s a handball and you should have a penalty but not gesture that the deliberate foul should be a booking. If you gesture that you got the ball, is that a yellow? Or if you gesture that the player dived? If the captain says to the ref “that’s a yellow”, is that also a booking, or only when a player makes a hand gesture? I think these ones should be reserved for when players surround the ref or go over the top throwing temper tantrums.

    4) Booking managers for complaining about decisions
I think this one is nonsense. Of course there’s a line not to cross and no problem with them clamping down on it, but there was 4/5 managers/coaching staff booked this weekend I think? For throwing their hands up or something, after a decision goes against them. It’s a passionate sport, you can’t expect the manager to just sit there smiling, while they get denied a stone wall penalty, or whatever.

    5) VAR looking to not overrule referees decision as much.
Didn’t realise this, but heard them saying it on sky there. I hate this one, just judge what the decision is, and no need to use language like “was it a clear and obvious error”. The irony is that by not overruling referees, they’re actually putting referees in an awkward position where their bad decisions will be highlighted more, cos they’re not being corrected. If Simon Hooper is told to look at that one on the screen tonight, there’s no way he doesn’t give a penalty. Still can’t believe our one yesterday too.
    I don't tip

Var is a ****in joke. The clear and obvious error "rule" is ****in stupid as well. Trust the ****in fa or PMGOL or whatever they are ****in called to **** it up. The rules are not subjective for **** sake......so if it is the wrong decision, but it was a close call - then we as fans just want the correct decision ffs. It is ****in stupid and there is no rationale to it. They are actually introducing subjectivity to the scenario by speculating if it was a clear and obvious error. Total joke shop.

2 options - let the guy with the endless replays and different angles be the boss and overrule the on field ref. Or else, every VAR decision, make the on field ref go to the screen.

All these useless ****wits had to do was copy rugby ffs and the cunts couldn't even do that.

All the other points i pretty much agree with. But stevie ****in wonder can see that (a) these dopey pricks wont be consistent with their own rules. They already aren't. And (b) the direction of these rules will last a wet week. Bruno Fernandes will be flashing imaginary yellows by October and won't get a yellow ffs

Feels like they’ve put these new rules in place to protect the officials tbh.

The VAR one is ridiculous though. Clear and obvious is ambiguous and I’m sure that’s the intention. I mean the Wolves pen shout last night to me was about as clear and obvious as you’ll get but perhaps in not in the eyes of the var officials.

Unsurprisingly a shocking start to the season for the officials and I doubt it’ll improve.

Webb is looking in the wrong place with the new rules; improve the stadard of offciating is where the focus should be; if they do that & improve VAR then behaviour will instantly improve from managers & players.

Once he sorts that, then by all means implement stricter guidelines for the knob'ed manager & players who over step the mark.

Clear and obvious error should be binned. It doesn't matter if the referee missed something or got it wrong, it's about getting decisions right. Ultimately

I think this is pretty vital but its 4-5 years away before that starts to come through. So I suppose this is what he can do now?

I think some accountability for the PGMOL is probably needed. Some representative from the officals fronting up after the game to explain decisions except this now grey area we have when managers are told they should have had a penalty after the fact.

I dont think anyone wants perfection, but the standard has dropped. But the pressures involved on the Refs is far greater, so you can see why its not as desireable at the moment to do it.

This probably happens at every ground post game but it’s a bad look

It's a terrible look. Need the equivalent of Register of Interests that MPs have. This should be publicly visible to all with severe penalties for failing to do so

Surely they get the same treatment at every PL ground? I dont think a post match meal for the officials counts as corruption. They supposed to queue up at Maccy Ds with the fans? That would be interesting.

Maybe it needs to stop. Just because its always happened possibly doesnt mean its fine to still happen?

Considering the influence they have and the amount of money swilling around at the top level of the game the optics are atrocious.

They're paid officials there to do a job. If they're off shift they should be ****ing off home or down the local Weatherspoons. Not swanning around the scene of the crime.

Next time the company you work for has external auditors in invite the auditors out for an all expenses paid meal on behalf of the company.

                          See what happens
