VAR should have gone back to when the ball went out of play before the offside query.

Morocco have played superbly and the unluckiest team I have seen in the Word Cup

Seeing some of the ref “misses”and decisions in the Spain game

So disappointed that Iran missed that late chance. Would have loved to see Portugal and that **** go with the last kick of the game. Wouldn't have been undeserved too. Could easily have gotten a pen for William Carvalho collapsing on the attacker in the box.

Also we should have noted to have Aspas in the box when there's a pressure corner rather than letting him take them.

I came into the tournament supporting the introduction and the first couple of days were great with some dives being overturned. But the lack of bookings in response was concerning. But I've become less and less convinced with every day of the tournament. It's being used when it's not supposed to be, ie marginal decisions like a couple of very questionable handball decisions and has resulted in extremely soft game changing penalties. It's not intervened or just got things wrong at other times. I didn't expect it to remove controversy from the game, that's too big an ask, but I didn't expect decisions that appear as arbitrary as have happened. I actually think the game is more fun to watch without VAR, but then my team aren't playing so I'm not affected by bad calls.

Perhaps sorting out the controversy was a bit ambitious but surely the idea is to correct clearly wrong decisions and give the opportunity to look at big decisions that the referee misses. The handball in the Portugal game was a joke, and as much as I would have loved to see Ronaldo sent off, that was never a red card, getting the ref to look at it was pointless. If that is the level of incident VAR is to be used for and the ref decides that was handball, you could have games with half a dozen pens and who knows how many yellow and red cards, it's madness, I would rather the referee miss them and get decisions wrong, than go through the farce of reviewing something and giving a soft pen or red card.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Really enjoying this so far. Some quality games, goals and drama. Uruguay v Portugal is going to be the most horrible, disgusting ****fest ever and it’ll probably be fun in a way! Spain v Russia could be fast paced, the doctors from both sides will have both teams in peak physical condition no doubt.

Yep it’s been fantastic so far, loved the games and no boring goalless draws so far

I reckon since I posted about it being a bit underwhelming every game has been brilliant

                          Loving it now.

I'm enjoying the plucky performances from the lesser teams. It's really good to see.

All the chat of VAR (Shearer was hilarious last night, I’m having to stop myself from swearing ) it DOES work. It’s just the refs are still **** and occasionally making bad calls with it, when they have literally all the information in front of them.

Train better refs and you have a not far off perfect system.

With any new system you are going to have teething problems, especially with so many rules open to (wrong) interpretations. For neutral games I can see why people get a little pissy about it, but before it we were relying on one man's decision in real time which just isn't good enough. The play off between Switzerland and Northern Ireland was decided by the ball hitting a players back, a decision the ref said was wrong after the game. VAR will be fine in time once football adapts its rules to it. Players shouldn't be allowed to call for it, for one.
