Thanjk you.

Curbishley has got more money than brain cells at the moment.
Paying Lucas Neill sixty grand a week is proof of that.
Do you think so? I think Curbishley just picks the players and doesn't give a toss about the cash - they are desperate.
With the huge financial rewards now on offer for all Premiership teams, clubs like West Ham who are in a precarious position are prepared to do ANYTHING necessary to stay in the division. If paying Neill 60g a week and shelling out 6Mill+ on Upson keeps them in the PL, then it's been good business for them. Of course it's a gamble, but it's definitely worth their while to do whatever they can to stay up and have a piece of the pie.

Too right
With the forthcoming Premiership TV deal it doesn't matter what Curbs spends now, he must just keep them up for next season.
(However should they go down........)
This new European tv deal with Sky is huge so it doesn't surprise me to see the likes of West Ham, who've now got a new owner, trying to splash the cash to guarantee survival.
The bottom club in the EPL will get £30m so spending big bucks now seems reasonable enough even if they're going way over board with their valuation of players. If they've got the money they may as well spend it - at least £30m for playing in the EPL or pennies compared to that for playing in the Championship!?!
No brainer for me, and good luck to them if it works out. Only problem is that it may cause unrest within the camp with current players not happy with what's been offered to new signings. Time will tell though eh!

Don't the board handle that sort of thing these days at most clubs?
To be honest I wouldn't believe the figures in the newspapers anyway.
I think Upson would be a good buy TBH. I think £6m would be my absolute upper limit of his worth though. The problem is that Curbs needs to get a defender who is good in the air and will perform straight away. I suspect they will go back with another bid, although as Arsenal have a sell on fee I suspect like ourselves with Pennant they may have to end up giving £8m+ to make Birmingham consider selling.

If there was ever a robbery needed anywhere I'd get fat Bruce to handle it with the way he robs other clubs blindly by selling his players twice as much as they're worth.

I agree that he has to spend to keep the team up but my point about paying Lucas Neill that kinda cash is that it's only going to have a negative impact on the side.
I would have thought the big hitters at West Ham wouldn't be earning that kind of money. I'd imagine most players would be going in demanding a pay rise if they are paying Lucas Neill such a large amount.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.
Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!
Currently on SS2, having a decent game, still rumoured to be coming to us shortly, has scored 2 goals in 6 starts (better strike rate than some of our strikers!)
However, with Carra being 1st name on the sheet etc, and with Agger coming through strongly this year, and Sami is not doing a lot wrong, do we really need an expensive CB playing second fiddle, and would he be happy in that role, and what message does that send out to those further down the pecking order?
On reflection, not worth it at £8M imo, spend it elsewhere if we have that sort of cash, we could do with options at RB & LB challenging & pushing for places couldn't we? And no to LN, but if needs must etc, I'd much prefer younger & faster wing backs than what he offers over what we have.
Although I think Carra and Agger are irreplaceable at the moment (and let's forget about the super Finn, best RB in the Premiership for sure), we need to think forward and ask ourselves what would we do if both of them got injured or something like that. I know the chances of that to happen are slim to none, but look at CSKA London now. Without Terry and Carvalho, they're ****e!
If Carra and Agger got injured, I sure as hell do not want to see Hyypiä and Paletta at the back! I've seen them against Arse and I don't want to watch that horror movie again!
If Upson isn't THAT expensive, I say we buy him. But I don't think we will, because Rafa's probably saving money for summer transfer window
