    Reina - Are you convinced?

In the past I have always thought that Reina has been brilliant. He is a sweeper, a shot stopper, and a great passer of the ball. Yet the mistakes, albeit small ones, keep coming.

I find myself confused by it all. He looks so fragile at times, yet we already have 11 clean sheets in the league plus the 30 odd from last season.

Watching him yesterday was a case in point. A missed catch, a failure to come for a cross which had to be dug out by Carra, yet another clean sheet.

Is Reina the answer? Should we accept that he has these Brucie style moments but is a great keeper as well?

Do you panic everytime a cross comes into the box? I do. If it's a shot then I have no worries at all but the errors from crosses still persist.

I'm not convinced Carson is the solution and I think we have more important issues to worry about like scoring wingers.

Do you think Reina is the future for Liverpool between the sticks?

i think you've said it already - if he gets the clean sheets and our defensive record still stays good then why change the keeper to be honest???

**** it. The defenders dont seem to be overly worried or lost all confidence in him, like when dudek is/was in goal.

I'd but him in the Barthez bracket at the minute. Exceptional keeper who will always give the opposition the feeling that he could gift them a chance. He is still very young for a keeper and he could yet improve his judgement and get into the Cech class or remain forever in level below - in which case we will have to upgrade.

Bit harsh with the missed catch mate, it was pissing down the ball slipped through his hands.

Reina is part of our record breaking defense, so yes I am convinced, still young as far as keepers go so has plenty time to improve even more.

i think plenty of brilliant keepers in the past have been a bit eccentric.

Remember a classic game in France 98 world cup between France and Paraguay.

Both Barthez and Chilavert were both playing as Sweepers, both a little eccentric, both quality keepers

I like Reina alot. Yes he has his faults but you show me a keeper that doesn't. Cech is the best in Europe IMHO and even he has dropped a few clangers in his time. I honestly can't thnk of anyone better for us than Pepe at the moment.

I don't panic at crosses either because 99 times out of 100 we clear the ball anyway. I think Reina has brought alot to the team and hopefully stays for a long tme to come.

I think he will be at the club for a long time and that probably means that Carson will be sold.

Every keeper in the World makes mistakes. Reina is still very young and shouldn't be at his best until six or seven years from now.

The only keeper I would consider instead of Reina is Buffon and he would cost a lot to sign and he isn't that much better than Reina.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

He's the best of our keepers at present and perhaps the one who gives the most confidence to his defence.

Not a priority position to change and in any event for the money we paid is there any better keeeper out there...??

Hmmm, Barthez was always overated and the Mancs found that out the hard way. If you're the number 1 for the world Champions then people are gonna assume you are the dogs bollocks but he wasn't. Chilavert was a fantastic goalkeeper and was strongly linked with Liverpool back in the day. Cech is probable the best goalkeeper in the world. Carson, I don't really rate him. Kirkland was and is a far better goalkeeper than him but keeping him was not an option because of his injury problems and also the offer that came in for him was reasonable.

And Reina? Well he is a goalkeeper in the Schmeichel mould. His distribution is fantastic and he brings so much to the game for a goalkeeper like creating counter attacks and even goals. He's good at one on ones and is vocal like Schmeichel too. On top of that he is an amazing saver of penalities. His record at saving penalties in unbelieveable - but we dont concede penalties. We conceded one in the league last season against Chelsea and have so far conceded none this season. He is a great shot stopper but the problem is - he's rarely tested. He literally goes matches without having to make a save. His problem is and this is Reina's quote which goes around the lines of "there's a fine line between a goalkeeper making a mistake and conceding a goal". Unfortunately, the little mistakes he makes get noticed big time and luckily as someone said above, the defence has bailed him out everytime this season. If he could cut his mistakes out then I believe we have the best goalkeeper in the world, even better than Cech. But its his concentration that on crosses that is letting him down, but he is damn young for a keeper. No one really knows if he's gonna be sold - you would assume it would be a no because of the number of clean sheets he's kept this year. But I think the clean sheets have been down to the defence and not him and its this fact which has sparked these rumours. I wouldn't be surprised if he was sold though. Not who Rafa would bring in though - but I'm sure one thing we know about Rafa is that he does take account of every mistake that his players make as he did with Cisse and Morientes and look what happened to them. If Rafa is intending on shifting him, I'm sure a replacement has been lined up.

I think the defense has far more confidence in him than previous keepers, JC always speaks highly of him in interviews and he is as harsh a judge of a player as i can imagine. You have to ask who is there better available? On stats noone at the mo except maybe Cech/Van der Saar neither of whom would come to us. So no debate for me.

                      recon Carra has

few times now Reina is shouting for it but Carra goes for it anyway.

                      sweeps up brilliantly at times.

still young and what player doesn't make the odd mistakes

I don't remember folk whinging and fretting like this about Grobbelaar.

Reina is an excellent keeper and, with him being so young, will only get better.

plenty on the Kop used to have a whine, but then even 2 nil up they'd have a go at not being 3-0 up

Reina is mentally stronger than any keeper we've had in recent years. He's the best we've had since Brucie.
The manager and the defenders have faith/confidence in him so end of story.

Don't think Reina is that bad but he does give me a heart attack when he flaps at crosses.
He & Grobbelaar are smiliar in the sense that they can go for 85 minutes without making a save but they will eventually make that vital one to win the game.
Keepers get better with age so Reina has plenty of time to improve.
