Carra To Be Offered A Testimonial

Nothing against Carra, but for me, in this day and age of premiership players earning many thousands and thousands of pounds per week, the whole testimonial is a kick in the teeth for the majority of us.

These guys do what we'd all do for free, get paid more in 3 days than most of us earn in a year, and then have the chance to have a TAX FREE bonus of what normally amounts to about £250,000 according to attendance.

Its about time this testimonial things comes to an end, unless they do a Shearer and give it to charity.

None of this issue that footballers have a short career, these guys won't ever have to work again, and if they do fall a little short when they retire, well, get a job like the rest of us. Very few of the entire workforce are able to walk from one like job to another, most of us will have to start from scratch if we lose our current jobs for whatever reason.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

It would be nice if the proceeds were given to a local charity - that would make a real difference.

Alder Hey was mentioned in echo yesterday

do you really think Carra wouldn't give it all away?

I think its a great gesture from the club and shows how important long standing players are

        Relax.

I'm sure Carragher's testimonial will be postponed for the last game at Anfield, or the first game at the new stadium.

He'll probably give the cash to Charity, as well.

No, I don't doubt for one second that Carra would give it to charity, my argument is that the testimonial is outdated in the age of million pound a year wages.

              nonsense

it allows a fun night for a player who gave his all for the club. Fans love these kind of games

The first one I heard about giving all the proceeds of his testimonial to charity was Niall Quinn.

I'd be a little surpsied if Carra didn't give it all away or turn it down. Is it true that he doesn't have a sponsorship deal for his boots because he earns a loads from LFC already and doesn't want to get embroiled in doing ads etc or am I misinformed on that?

I must say, the endorsement business really pisses me off more than the odd testimonial. Why the hell should these players on millions of pounds a year jet off to a shoot on their day off to earn some extra cash they don't need? Shouldn't they be resting?
                .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Sure, but if every testimonial is done that way, i.e giving money to charity, then I think that it's worthwhile. And the fans get a nice night out on the kop.

its still a great way of the club, players and fans to show their appreciation to a player who has given their club grat service.

Unless it's a lower-league team, testimonials are now tributes to well-respected long-serving players rather than money-raisers (well, they're still money-raisers, but only in raising money for charities). The thought of someone like Carra leaving without the appropriate send-off of a testimonial would anger me more.

these players may give their all for the club, but they're well rewarded it for it with the inflated salaries.

The testimonial should go out, and the charity benefit game for a charity of the players choice should come in. There should be no option for the player to pocket the profits.

testimonials are outdated cos players change every 2 years

Carra's been here since day one. Why not reward loyalty with a day out. We all go on about getting local players and players who'd "die" for the club
He can play 5 minutes in every position to to tune of we all dream of a team of Carraghers

was mentioned 2008 for game and Alder Hey would get proceeds.
