Exactly. Fowler could (can?) score any type of goal under the sun - long and short range shots, headers, free kicks. People with short memories tend to forget that circa 1993-1997 he was an absolute phenomenon.Originally posted by KingKenny View PostI disagree,
how many times have we seen Owen score from 30 odd yards. How many times have we seen Owen score with cheecky back hell. How many times has Owen scored from a direct free kick. Very very minimal.
So he is not a complete striker, take his speed away and you will have a very average footballer. Fact.
Owen was good, very good and certainly doesn't always get the credit he deserves for the things he did for us, but Robbie is God.

There's a part of me that will never forgive him for buggering off when things got a little tough and the club was looking to go in a different direction in the summer of 2004.Originally posted by KingKenny View Postmy opinion is the majority of lfc fans felt betreyed by Owen when he took a hike when Madrid came calling, whilst Fowler was sold against his wish
I dont blame him, he followed his head, fair enough.
But Stevie followed his heart, stayed and won the European Cup.

Sorry for rambling now but I'm just thinking of some of Fowler's goals for us - the hat-trick against Arsenal, the brace on Cantona's return at Castle Greyskull (including shoulder charging Neville over!!), and the one he flicked over his head and volleyed in against Brann Bergen in the UEFA Cup I think it was??

Interesting points. I think Fowler will always be God to the Liverpool supporters local to Anfield and probably in the UK. However, on a global scale I think Owen was the more popular and enjoyed greater popularity.
Fowler was/is the better finisher, no doubt. If only he had Owens pace."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

Style of Roy Evans, just look at Fowler under GedOriginally posted by tsb View PostThe fact that Owen never scored 20+ league goals settles this debate. Fowler hit the 30's for three consecutive seasons. This may be down to the style of Roy Evans' teams but he still had to put the ball in the back of the net.
Owen under Roy's team for as long would of scored loads aswell.
heart says Fowler
head say's Owen
2 different style of players, both deadly, both loved scoring goals, both would rather shoot than pass.
Owen has a lot more to his game than just speed.
and all this Owen judas ****e without knowing the facts.
Owen was used single handed to win match's we were getting battered in.
All this they couldn't play together, more like the system didn't allow them.
A fit Fowler and Owen would of been some partnership with our current team supporting themIts times like these we learn to live again FF

Ged's whole game plan was utalising Owen's pace (defend deep and long ball to Owen) Fowler was never going to find it easy in that side. Owen wouldn't have been as good in Evans team IMO as it wouldn't have been geared up to his strengths and he wouldn't have been 'main man' (which he thrived on).Originally posted by redlancer View PostStyle of Roy Evans, just look at Fowler under Ged

Fowler by a country mile. Roy's team may have been more attacking but thet attacked as a team whereas Ged's system was built around counter attacks and the ball over the top for Owen to score"Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest."

At his peak Fowler was better than Rush...and yes I've seen both live many times. Owen was extremely good but wouldn't even make the bench in my all time Liverpool squad.

being main man also mean you main man for the oposition. If they stopped him what else was there? Yet they didn't.Originally posted by Ryan_Derrick View PostGed's whole game plan was utalising Owen's pace (defend deep and long ball to Owen) Fowler was never going to find it easy in that side. And as for a football player thriving on being the main man as you put it, show me a forward that doesn't have that trait and i'll show you
Owen scored thoose poacher goals for Madrid.
Owen would of been a better player under Evans IMO and likewise Fowler would of benifit from a young Owen as he'd use the space he made. Its times like these we learn to live again FF
