United are winning that's the key. The team is going forward and scoring goals regularly whereas we've been found wanting on that front.

Mate, it makes my blood boil - although it doesn't anger me quite as much as his diabolical one-footedness. Aurelio has another advantage on Riise insofar as he can actually use his right foot. When Riise swings (and he really does SWING it!) his right foot he looks like a girl trying to play football. Utterly, utterly hopeless.Originally posted by fredo View PostTrue he isn't an 'athletic' kind of a player, as he's more in the mould of a gifted lightweight player but I've seen him tackling with some vigour in matches, so i wouldn't bet against him being strong.
On that front i think JAR has the edge but, but I'm frustrated at the way Johnny gives the ball away by hoofing it long. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Can we lock the thread and have the same discussion after the Chelsea game.Originally posted by fredo View PostI agree 100% Shaggy mate. Was saying that weeks and weeks ago. Aurelio is a very good player and for me should be our first choice left back, with Riise being backup.
His performance against Watford is negated by the fact that Watford were atrocious... His cameo against Arsenal (were i thought he was effective) occurred when we had 70%+ possession of the ball. He hasn't impressed me much this season apart from recently.
For me, Riise should play as LB unless the formation is changed. Though if Aurelio pushes on and performs well, then i'll be delighted to see i good run in the team from him....

Riise needed a rest and prior to todays game has looked a little exhausted. The mental state of mind is the first to go with these athletes when they are tired and the only thing you can critisise riise for is that recently he has made a few poor decisions. What is unfair is that carra made a huge huge mistake for the last goal against arsenal and seemed to escape any wrath. Some of you seem to forget that carra never got off to the best of starts this year. Riise`s ability to run off the ball, his distribution of short passes and the long switch make him a player that is very hard for him to be left out of any team. prefably i would like to see him play on the left side of midfield. Aurellio has shown some glimpses of talent but with this his first year, his admitted language barrier, its a little unfair to compare him with anyone."People from Liverpool have got something about them and, if they’re not happy about something, they let people know.”

Listen - sure Riise hasn't been at his best this season but IMO last season he was excellent! He was a very important part of a hugely effective defensive unit. We all know his form has dropped off but I don't agree with the slagging he's been getting of late. I for one don't want to lose JAR in the summer.Liverpool born and bred.

Good post. I agree. A prolonged break may not be a bad thing... Utd are often sending players on a hiatus to somewhere sunny during the season... when was the last time we did that... or anything equally unorthodox
Anyway, Riise has often struggled to keep controlling his work rate during games. I hope it is just a case of him being totally shot....

My siggy has of course been updated
Riise is in some seriously turd form at the mo but over the last 18 months he has been very solid for us. Aurelio has come on nicely the last few games, but I think he'll remain a squad player as other have said. Riise will stay and although I don't disagree we could do with a better LB, I think we clearly have other priorities that need sorting first.Last edited by Red_Polo; 13-01-07, 06:22 PM.Like blood on iron

He needs to score 4 to prove me wrong, hopefully he will.
He's got 15 games to score 4 goals, so there's every chance. That said, it did take him 23 games to score 6 goals, so....

Hasnt he scored most of them in the past few games? seems the court case was having an effect on his performances.Originally posted by anfieldanfield View PostThat said, it did take him 23 games to score 6 goals, so....Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

We've been over this and I edited the signature (to your approval) to make it clearer the day Bellamy scored a brace against Wigan. You had disappeared off the forum at the time but sent me a patronising PM about my signature.Originally posted by anfieldanfield View PostIt doesn't matter if he 'matches' Cisse.
He scores again today and the same bitterness emerges, yet you would have us believe that 'nothing would make you happier' than for him to score more than 9 league goals.
If you are really so happy about it, why don't you act like it? Why not laugh and say how glad you are you happen to be wrong about him if not about the prediction yet?Like blood on iron

you dont over night become a bad player, especially not with his personality and abilities. Teams were terrified last season of him, including alot of our fans when we went to Blackburn to play last season.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
