Originally posted by Sir Bob View PostThe takeover looks more or less done then which must be good news. You can't help but think without it Rafa would leave sooner rather than later, particularly when Madrid next come calling.
Rafa will I hope manage Madrid one day but not for a good while. He deserves to manage them, they are his club and I hope he achieve his dream.
As for potential replacements, people get very one eyed in my view. Managers like Strachan, Curbishley & Fat Sam are excellent managers and to write them off as not good enough is a nonsense. On this criteria a Shankley would never get appointed now, nor a Paisley or a Kenny.
Get off your high horse and live in the real world. No one is saying they're not good enough. But in today's football, where a season out of the CL could mean financial disaster, top clubs need managers proven at the very highest level.White liquid in a bottle = Milk

I am very much living in the real world and if you read the thread again many have said those managers aren't good enough.
My point is that just because a manager hasn't managed at the very top level doesn't mean they should be discounted. Another 2 classic examples are Ferguson & Wenger. If Rafa left & we went for a manager from Scotland or a frenchman nobody had heard of, most on here would be in uproar.AKA Heighway No9

Well, whether they're good enough or not is a moot point. Fact is that they haven't proven they are good enough at the very top level. Wenger was recruited over 10 years ago, Ferguson over 20 years ago, at a time where the stakes were not as high as they are now. I doubt you would see those clubs now go for unproven managers.Originally posted by Sir Bob View PostI am very much living in the real world and if you read the thread again many have said those managers aren't good enough.

While Strachan was being interviewed................ Parry was in spain having dinner with an agent who had amongst others, a Rafael Benitez as a client....the meeting was "supposedly" to discuss football matters in general
Strachan would have won us nothing.............but his press conferences would have been greatLawrenson:"Well thats 3 good chances they have had in the first 3 minutes of this half"
Motson:"" Yes Mark, you could almost say that they have had 3 chances in as many minutes"
Lawrenson: Errr I thought I just did say that, John"

I remember posting at the time that I was told that Strachan at one point was no.1 choice and would be top of the list of British managers interviewed. My source was another manager.Originally posted by The Glove View PostYep.
Strachan says he got quite far at the interview stage in his book, Curbs was second choice apparently and Fat Sam, well he got ****ed off at the first hurdle, which you'll notice suddenly became the time he hated us and takes every opportunity to take a pop at us.
I got laughed out of town....

But both had fantastic successes, Look what ferguson had done with aberdeen in europe, Wenger in Japan(not sure of his other managerial success)Originally posted by Sir Bob View PostI am very much living in the real world and if you read the thread again many have said those managers aren't good enough.

the managers you talk about have NO pedigree. Strachan, Curbs, o'neil, jewell etc. I re-iterate we are Liverpool FC and in todays moderrn game we should be talking to a handful of managers with WORLD experience._____________________________________
Weak willed, Wank or do they have a masterplan?
Think we have the answer..Slot!!

I think Wenger had won the French league with Monaco, and got them to a European final. So hardly unproven.Originally posted by red g View PostBut both had fantastic successes, Look what ferguson had done with aberdeen in europe, Wenger in Japan(not sure of his other managerial success)

I think Wenger was unproven at the top level. He did win the french League title but was later sacked by monoco and then moved to Japan where he had some success. A decent record but hardly top notch. I still think if appointed such a manager after Rafa, most on here would be up in arms.Originally posted by Dhavlos View PostI think Wenger had won the French league with Monaco, and got them to a European final. IMO the main thing is that Liverpool has a much better working environment then Real especially after the takeover so I dont think Rafa is in much of a hurry to leave. I think he knows that if he gets us to the top of Europe doing everything his way he can always get a job at Real.
Dont forget, there he will not control everything like he does with us.
Plus Parry sounds like there could be players other then Mascherano and Neill coming in.

I think the players that he's reffering to are probably Meill and Mascherano.Babel fanclub member # 4!!!

They would be up in arms, and would have every right to be. We're too big a club and have too much to lose to risk hiring a manager unproven at the top level.Originally posted by Sir Bob View PostI think Wenger was unproven at the top level. Dhavlos, apart from Rafa we have never had a manager proven at the top level. Winning big doesn't necessarily make you a great manager. There are many who say Rikjard only got Barca back to the top because of the coach they had. He's now gone and Barca and not as good as they used to be.
