The fact of the matter is Stevie has improved as a holding midfielder since Momo got his injury and now Rafa is faced with the happy conundrum of playing the brilliant holding midfielder that is Sissoko or the all round midfielder that is Stevie the bottom line is there isn't a hope in hell of Rafa disturbing the midfield partnership of Stevie and Xabi because they offer the team many more options and he has been raving about Stevie the past few weeks, than Momo whos passing has improved but still needs alot of work imo.
I was at the game on Saturday and we where brilliant really really brilliant and Stevie was breking up everything(not on his own mind). One moment summed him up late in the second half when Drogba tried to muscle Stevie off the ball as he had done to a few of our players earlier in the game but Stevie stood like a collossus, phenomenal athelthe.
But that article cites such a simplistic, base "reason" for our improved form. If he genuinely believes the ONLY reason for our improved form is Sissoko's absence then he is sorely mistaken.
We had Carra, Xabi and Reina all woefully out of form in the early part of the season. All of them, especially Reina and Carra, are now playing very well again. Same goes for Bellamy and even Finnan.
I find it hard to understand that so many people seem to think Gerrard's return to the middle is the reason for our improvement. Take the blinkers off.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
Gerrard is the best midfielder in the world right now, and the Anfield chief has surely learned that his captain causes opponents problems through the middle that he cannot cause when shoved out wide.
this is IMO wrong.
Steve is very good at what he is doing for us at the moment. Possibly the best in the world. He is also the best right back in the world. That does not mean we should play him as a right back. Rafa has to find the position where his talent will do the most damage for the opponent. And that is IMHO not in a two man midfield.
This is doing my head in. The main page shows the last post in this forum was by dww at 6.39, in this thread. Now where the **** is it? When I click the "go to post" linky, I go to the start of this thread. WTF?

ALonso and gerrard have begun complimenting each other well. At times Stevie in his matured role is further Behind Xabi. they are the best pairing so in my opinion they play there.
Xabi has also developed his tackling and breakdown play which he never had when he first came to England.
I think the only reason gerrard plays right is because Pennant isn 't as good a Rafa thought. I hope after his goal on Saturday he can begin to show some class.
