This is exactly right. A Barnes for the right wing. But I'd happily take Barnes for the left wing, as his supply for Aldridge and Rush was so good, that even though our left side is not our weaker one, Barnes at his best would still have improved it immeasureably.

I'm not so sure ... John Barnes in his prime would be a huge addition to our current team. He would add that creativity we lack in midfield and would cause havoc for opposition defenders and provide crosses galore for Kuyt etc. Remember the excitement when Digger got the ball in his peak? You just knew something good was going to happen.

I'm not convinced that the left side of our midfield is much stronger than the right side, tbh.

I also think there would be a case for Ian Rush alongside Kuyt...pace, application and an unerring eye for goal.
Rush would be perfect for a Rafa team.

          Still, nice to dream eh?

            The 1996 version of Fowler.

everytime Barnes got the ball and ran down the wing we'd all start moving to get a good view of the penalty box and focus on say Aldo waiting for the cross, you just knew it was comming.
                Barnes was awesome.
If he was in his prime today he'd be arguably the best player in the world

But since football changed lately (it's a lot quicker and rougher than decades ago), do you honestly think players from 70s and 80s would adapt to today's way of playing footie?

                    Yes.

Oh you want me to expand on that?

OK... great players are great players whatever the era and the likes of Dalglish, Souness, Hansen, Rush and Barnes (to name just five) would adapt their fitness, diet, technique and skills to suit the situation.

Admittedly it is tempting to go for Kenny or Rushie.

But it has to be John Barnes. What a ****in player he was.

That's the kind of player we need right now, not another holding midfielder or backup full back. Someone who'll run at defenders, get to the byline like a winger should. What made Digger so great was that he scored regularly, very few wingers have done that before or since. That little Portugese Ponce cu/nt has been doing it in Salford this year *spits*.

Without a doubt I'd sign a young half back Scottish international called Bill Shankly, he qualifies as he played as a guest for Liverpool during the war.

Just think of the legacy he would give us starting here as a player then as the manager...

Now he was ...The original and only "Special One"

I still think we're lacking a good old fashioned midfield general with a huge presence and a moustache so i'd break the bank for Graeme Souness.
