RAFAEL BENITEZ will be handed a £150 million jackpot when the Yanks walk into Anfield.
As exclusively revealed in the News of the World on December 3, American tycoon George Gillett is set to win the battle to own Liverpool.
Gillett has formed a dream ticket partnership with his fellow US multi-millionaire Tom Hicks in a mind-boggling deal which is expected to be resolved in the next few weeks.
We were the only newspaper to name 68-year-old Gillett and predicted he would come out on top while our rivals were insisting the club would fall into the hands of the Dubai International Capital Group.
Hicks and Gillett are preparing to confirm their £470m takeover of the club has been accepted by the majority shareholder on Tuesday, with the £5,000-per-share offer then presented to shareholders. And they will then give boss Benitez £150m for players.
A highly-placed source in the Hicks camp confided: "Tom is a shopaholic when it comes to his business dealings.
"He is always prepared to invest heavily whether it is in his sports or other enterprises. He and George will not hesitate to spend whatever it takes to put Liverpool on top."
Gillett and 60-year-old Hicks — who bought the Texas Rangers baseball team for £127m — flew into Merseyside by private jet after the collapse of the Arab bid on Tuesday.
By Thursday night they had shaken hands on the deal with Reds chairman David Moores, who is set to make £88m for selling his 51.6 per cent stake.
