I honestly cant see us with a torres or a villa. maybe a chance of huntelaar

We are crying out for a fowler or an owen to break though from the youth team.

With a healthy budget for next year, I'm convinced that Rafa, out of the 2, will go for Torres rather than Villa, and I also think he stands a good chance of getting him, all things being equal with the transfer fee.
Torres is, IMO, more suited to the english game than Villa and would have more chance of succeeding over here.

Also, if Mascherano settles in with us and plays well, I wouldnt be surprised to see Alonso going the other way as part of a Torres/Villa deal.

Anyway, 40 million quid net spend every year would be more than enough imo. If you can't win the league with that level of spending you'll never win it.
Even though the massive funds would be available i would like Rafa to continue with his smart buys and not really go down Chelsea's path of 20mil + for a player.

I would not be surprised at all if he didnt go for Torres or Villa but more maybe for wingers again.

As exclusively revealed in the News of the World on December 3, American tycoon George Gillett is set to win the battle to own Liverpool.

Gillett has formed a dream ticket partnership with his fellow US multi-millionaire Tom Hicks in a mind-boggling deal which is expected to be resolved in the next few weeks.

We were the only newspaper to name 68-year-old Gillett and predicted he would come out on top while our rivals were insisting the club would fall into the hands of the Dubai International Capital Group.

Hicks and Gillett are preparing to confirm their £470m takeover of the club has been accepted by the majority shareholder on Tuesday, with the £5,000-per-share offer then presented to shareholders. And they will then give boss Benitez £150m for players.

A highly-placed source in the Hicks camp confided: "Tom is a shopaholic when it comes to his business dealings.

"He is always prepared to invest heavily whether it is in his sports or other enterprises. He and George will not hesitate to spend whatever it takes to put Liverpool on top."

Gillett and 60-year-old Hicks — who bought the Texas Rangers baseball team for £127m — flew into Merseyside by private jet after the collapse of the Arab bid on Tuesday.

By Thursday night they had shaken hands on the deal with Reds chairman David Moores, who is set to make £88m for selling his 51.6 per cent stake.

I`m think I`m in heaven.. God bless Gillett and Hicks

I think Rafa will stick to buying not so well Known players(ie.Momo,Xabi and Garcia) who tend not to rock the boat with pre-madonna attitudes.
Spending 20mil+ on players does not guarantee world class performances every week(Sheva+Ballack)

I disagree with you & Desertscouser. Rafa always inderictly made remarks about funds not being enough to sign targets.
Big example last years January window when we lost out on Simao because the club couldn't match Benficas 12£ m asking price.
I think Rafa will make one or two 15-20£ m signings that will make a huge improvment to the squad now that funds will be availabe.
Would not be surprsied if shelled out 10£ on a youngster or two as well.
Any manager would be stupid not to use the resources to improve the squad into a PREM winning side. My tuppence worth lads.

A very good post except that I think that Rafa will shell out more than £10 on a youngster or two.

Alves plus a very good striker would be my guess as the two main signings in the summer.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Rafa has said he doesn't know how much money he will get in the summer to spend.

Bascombe has also said the Americans are here today to complete the deal.

                          IMO..

Bale - Off to the Scum in the summer

Villa - If Rafa goes back to Spain for a striker, i think itll be Torres.

Alves - Agreed, think we'll be back in for him come the summer.

As long as we can play real-life Football Manager 2007 that's all that matters, eh?
