It's no different to the chavs or us having excellent quality in m/f to choose from, and trying to fit them in somehow.

As for the OP, given the choice I'd rather stick with an on form Xabi thank you, but I would prefer his form to be as consistent as Carrick's is.

Hargreaves is such a verstalile player, he can cover so many roles in the team, he wouldn't simply be an out and out replacement for Carrick.

It surprises me why Rafa ain't going after him. Maybe its cause of Utd's interest/the cost/or he thinks he's gash.

Xabi, in this under-par season alone, has scored more goals than Carrick has done since the day he left ****ing West Ham.

I think he's probably after Hargreaves as an addition to their squad because after Carrick and Scholes they've got no decent cover at CM unless they play Fletcher.

I think it's fair to say that they wont have Scholes forever either so they're probably looking for a long term replacement.

We should stick a cheeky bid in for Hargreaves just to piss off demento.

For all those Carrick detractors... One of the best managers in the modern era paid 18m for him (way above his market value) and Utd have been in impervious form with Carrick a mainstay.

He's far from a passenger and a poor-mans Alonso.

Alonso is a CL winner and an established international.

Carrick is a good player aspiring to be better. At present there is no comparison.

He's clearly a decent player, but he doesn't grab games by the scruff of the neck and isn't able to dictate a game. Alonso clearly is.

I work with loads of vermin, ST holders, and I don't think one of them would dare claim Carrick is better. They spend most of their time getting on Carrick's case to show a bit of desire and a bit of spunk. It's all well and good stroking 20 yard balls along the ground, but he's got a long way to go yet.
