crouch has proved what a good player he is. But then if you take Kuyt as our no.1 striker but not a 20+ goal man who needs 1 chance for a goal and we bring that 20million+ striker in surely either bellamy or crouch will be sacrificed?

World class striker( insert name here)
    Kuyt
    Bellamy or crouch
    and a youngster.

Rafa will probably cut his losses with one off his strikers. . We have spent around 20mil 3 strikers and we still need an out and out striker. I think Crouch will go. I can only see some of the defenders go if they want to go. Kewell is on borrowed time already. Garcia will go as part of a deal for somebody from Spain. Lets face it I don't think he has improved us much this season.
Did you see the size off those chickens?

        just guessing but perhaps?

        Riise 4m
        Hyppia 1.5
        Pennant 6
        Zenden 1.5
        Kewell 3m ?
        Dudek 1.5m?
        Cisse 8m
        Flo-Po 2.5
        Le- Tallec 2.5

        Crouch 10m

I think Garcia will be safe for another season perhaps, unless used as makeweight (or for some lightweight ) in a deal.

No scientific basis for my suggestions, just opinion/surmising, so shoot me!
We'd have to be mental to get rid of Riise and Crouch. The rest of the name's you mentioned can go and our squad won't be any weaker.
I wonder if the money thing works both ways ie now we're "rich" we'll have to pay over the odds (not that we don't anyway!) - will we have to accept lower transfer fees as clubs we don't need the money so badly?? obviously we don't have to accept low offers but it would be nice to get dross like zenden, pongolle, bellamy, kewell etc off the payroll and let them play at a club/league more suited to their abilities.

          My take:

          Flo: 2 mill
Carson: stays as backup if he wants to, if not bye bye. 4 mill.
Riise: stays as squadie, but will be replaced by better player
          Dudek: Out on a free.
Sami: Stays. Rafa likes veteran centrebacks.
          Zenden: 1.5 mill.
          Cisse: 8 mill.
Crouch: 10 mill. He will go, and be replaced by a better striker imo.
          Pennant: Stays one more year.
ALT: No idea what will happen. Probably sale, 1-2 mill.
Kewell: Given one season to prove fitness and form due to being a Rafa fav.
Bellamy: Sold if good offer comes. 7-8 mill. I think he stays for one more year though.
Fowler: Goes, no coaching role I fear.

            Lower?
Not sure if that's possible for us....

Hate to see God going, would be great to see him even as part of backroom some how, it would be good for morale and continuity

Sami: think he will go back home, maybe one more season
                  Zenden: free
                  Cisse: 9million spurs or newcaslte
                  Crouch: 12million see above
Pennant: will go in january, after having paddy, being on the bench
ALT: who? the new ronaldo? will be given away
Kewell: a fully fit kewell will stay
Bellamy: dependent on attributes of world class striker we bring in.
                  Fowler: cheers for the nineties

not to much upheavel if they above happened would only need 1/2 strikers a right winger and a left back, perhaps winger in 2. only see 3 or 4 £15million players coming this summer

not that it's worth much but imho we'll only buy two players of note in the summer, three at the most. unfortunately its clear that fowler's days are over and that crouch and bellamy will be great back up and options but we need a first choice striker to play with kuyt.

rafa clearly wants alves so i reckon pennant will become back up next season but for me he's more than justified is place in the squad for next season, still needs to do a lot more if he is to be first choice.

as for the players on the left we have good options but i reckon gonzalez should go out on loan to a prem team for more game time, somewhere like fulham would work for me, hard working but not cloggers. zenden is now probably surpluss to requirements especially if we ever get clearence for mascherano.

as others have said the likes of kewell and garcia offer too much when fit to consider getting rid of especially if we are going in for big signings, alves would seem to be the managers choice for the right with any number of players up front. for me one of anelka, ibrahimovic, torres or villa at a push (am not convinced about him in the prem) would complete the team nicely.

                      Good post.
I can't see Ibrahimovic at Anfield though - he's got skill to burn, but not the right Rafa mentality.
                      Pity.

just reckon he's what we need for those tight games when we need a moment of genius such as at the weekend or against the big teams. kuyt will be top scorer for us next year and near or at the top of the prem charts, but he is a little one dimensional. zlatan would also work coz he wouldnt necessarily want to play in all the games which leaves space for either or both of crouch and bellamy. though i do suspect
you are right bout him not being a rafa player.

Don't degenerate yourself, it's worth as much as anything that anyone else posts, and rumours today have Anelka leaving, so there might be something in what you suggest, whether it would happen is another thing, and knowing Rafa it might be someone completely left of field who no-one has thought of yet.

But yes, all our strikers are only No2 strikers, prob due to Rafa not being able to get a package together for a real No9, he prob thought any 2 from 4 (or 3 from 4 even) will do the job, alas it hasn't worked out like that.

And I completety agree, too much disruption would harm the team/squad, it will be 1 small step at a time, prob 1 major signing, with a squad signing or 2, with the youth/reserve having to produce 1 or 2 as well, which will prob mean only improving season by season rather than doing a chavski.

What is good for us is all the players have until the end of the season to show why they shouldn't be sold.

I agree. I will be very surprised to see wholesale changes, even if Rafa was given this fabled £120 million to spend. I think he and the yanks have stressed the need for continuity and that we aren't that far from having a dominant team.

I would honestly only expect to see 3 or 4 quality signings and some youngsters in the summer.

I really hope this gives the current squad a massive incentive to prove their worth for the remainder of the season.
