Everyone is assuming that the Premier League 'brand' (God I hate that word) will continue to grow and grow...

I think it will plateau, or else decline.

Ticket prices/no atmosphere/other factors are taking their toll....

The new stadium is not designed for expansion, wether the new owners will try and do something about that, i'm not sure.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

        * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

There is NO WAY the new stadium capacity could be increased or the fundamental design changed without re-applying for planning permission and that would take another five years..."

Their fans are as fickle as anyone's. I remember in the 70s when there were plenty of games at their ground with only 30-odd thousand turning up. When their ground was closed because of hooliganism in 1971 (as I recall) they playes a number of games at other stadiums including Anfield. They only got 28,000 turning up for a game at Anfield against Arsenal, many of them being curious Liverpool fans

interesting fact about OT: Development was completed in 1909, and its inaugural game was played against Liverpool F.C., resulting in a 4-3 win for the visitors.

I well remember Old Toilet in the 70s with no roof at one end. A dump

There was talk when the stadium was first mooted that it could be expanded downwards as I believe the Camp Nou was - building a new layer of seating below the bottom tier and lowering the pitch accordingly

I just hope the acoustics at Anfield 2 (I will forever refuse to call it anything but Anfield) rival Anfield proper's.

I read you posts Del - and very good they are too! Can you imagine the septics coming to terms with 5 years to make any proposed improvements...interesting.

Unfortunately I doubt 'acoustics' will be high on the list of priorities Mick.

Everything will be designed to make as much money as possible in as little time as possible.

I hope to God I am wrong, but I expect a souless bowl of a stadium with ridiculous ticket prices, flashing avdertising hoardings and big screen TV's, as we peep through our binoculars at the pitch below.

:Shudderandshiverythingy: - I suspect you're correct. I haven't been 'home' for longer than I'd be prepared to admit - can't get tickets - but I was a frequent visitor 60s 70s 80s. I started out sitting in the at the windows at the back and slowly graduated to other parts of the Kop - I wrote a bit about this...elsewhere...Last time I was there we were swaying and singing. The sound of Anfield is not to be underestimated.

My son has never seen us play at Anfield - I've GOT to get him there before the move.

Can you even begin to imagine the Kop for Anfield's last game ?!

Assuming It's a 3pm kick off, the club will probably have to open the gates at about 9 in the morning!! It will be a sad day for everyone...especially the older folk, who witnessed the 60's and 70's...

Like I said, I hope to God I'm wrong about the new stadium.

Maybe Hicks and Gillett will see/hear/experience the crowd at the Barca game and make 'atmosphere' a priority for the new stadium. It doesn't take much to fall in love with this special club, so you never know...

                                Fingers crossed for the future.
