Carson needs first team action. If Arsenal thinks he's good enough and are willing to pay 5 mill£ we should let him go.

Is he good enough? He is a more schooled keeper than Reina that's for sure. Reina, on the other hand, has that craziness that I like in a keeper. That Schmeichel quality. The ummmpf that gets the boat rocking. On a good day Reina is to be preferred. I think Carson is more stabil but never really brilliant like Reina can be. On the other hand he rarely does what Reina did against Newcastle, Everton, West Ham. I'm rambling...

If Carson has a chance for one of the big 4 I wish him all the best. That's pretty much it.

We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold.

        I'm not worried.
        Oh I don't know.

By Wigan's goal, you mean that 30-yard screamer into the top corner?

I was sitting wondering what the **** he was on about -- I only seen highlights of the Arsenal Wigan game and seen the screamer but then I had thought maybe Wigan scored another

Clichy is clearly not rubbish. What a ridiculous thing to say.

They didn't. Dee is clearly an idiot.

I think Carson would make a good second choice keeper but what I've seen of him he doesn't convince me enough to take Reina's place. He would make an excellent back-up. I dont know if it is youth or lack of experience, but he is prone to errors and lapses in concentration and is quite inconsistent - played a blinder in a high pressure game against Juve, yet conceded a howler. At Charlton he's proved a very good shot-stopper, but the real test at a big club is maintaining concentration and how you react to danger after long periods of inactivity - and I'm surprised that Arsenal are willing to take such a gamble when he hasn't exactly proved that he is capable at that level yet. But then again when the alternative is Lehmann, I can see why Wenger is willing to take a chance.

I think if we are talking about getting £5m for a back-up keeper, then surely it is a decent deal especially given that he cost us less than £1m. On the other hand if we are talking of a keeper the coaching staff seriously believe has the potential to be a first team regular for years to come and a serious rival to Reina, then selling him for £5m is a mistake and the current policy is the best one - loan him out to lower-placed Premier League clubs for experience for the next couple of years (bringing him back if Pepe is out long-term) and keep young keepers (Martyn, this Italian lad) as back up. He does need first team football, so we do need to loan him out so that he's playing regularly for the next couple of years.

Problem is I am sure the lad will want a move if Arsenal do come in for him and make assurances about first team football. In that case I hope we play hard ball with them. They are our rivals and they're after an English player. We dont need any other excuses to drive the price up.

I don't think the coaching staff rate him, however...

Is there any sort of source behind this? I remember when he came that Rafa was supposed to rate him very highly.

He does however not seem to have learned any of the sweeping techniques that we seem very keen on Reina doing.

Watch the build up to the goal when clichy ran 40 yards up the pitch & one of wigan's strikers ran into the gap forcing djorou(sp?) or Toure (cant remember which one) to track him - the striker then cut it back & although another arsenal defender cut it out - it fell to landzaat who hit a screamer.

Clichy is great going forward but he is not a great defender yet

I tend to agree with you.

I think we will be able to tell a lot more once Dudek moves on. If you consider Carson was really third choice when Dudek and Reina were both available - I wonder if this is simply because Dudek is more senior and there is a greater need to move him on, thus the idea was to give him some playing time to engineer a move, while Carson is still young so he can bide his time until Dudek leaves. I sincerely hope it is not the case that they rate Dudek above Carson, because if it is then I think we might as well get rid of him.

I have been told this by a mate who works at Melwood.
It is alleged that Scott suffers from the same malaise that Messrs Baros and Kirkland also suffered from - i.e. an inability to take the Rafa philosophy on board and to follow basic instructions from the coaching staff.
My friend is certain that Carson's LFC career is on its last legs.

It would certainly make sense. Carson is…how do I say this nicely….erm, he’s not the cleverest lad, is he? In fact he’s really dense, bless him. I imagine he would struggle in the “listening and learning” department.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
