    Reina
    Finnan Carra Sami Riise
    Gerrard Momo Xabi Gonzo
    Fowler/Kuyt Bellers

    for me is the most balanced formation.

    Pennant and others to fill in.

      Gonzales has had too much hype. Alot of people expecting him to dooo really well, Can't really see it happenin for him but once he settles he should be a threat with his pace.

      The goal will improve his confidence. Wil he be picked ahead of harry kewell though?

        You need to watch them more

        That formation was the infamous 4231.

          I'd agree for an away game/tough home game

          For a home game I'd use both wingers, and try and work out who to drop out of Momo, Xabi and Gerrard.

              Actually, I'd have Aurelio at LB when fit!

                Whether it's 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, 4-1-4-1, the basic premise is the same. 1 striker, 2 wingers, 3 midfielders.

                It's the same players, just different 'instructions' on how attacking to be.

                  do you not think that scoring an important goal on your debut that might be worth as much as £15-20m to the club in financial terms is not 'doing well'?

                    4231 is about having three second strikers. It's completely different, unless you don't know what you're talking about.

                    Gudjohnsen had no place under Mourinho. He'd be the Angel Gabriel to Rafa.

                      Superbly taken goal, but the last 20 minutes was virtually one way traffic, so I'm really pleased for him but I didn't learn anything about how good he will be as a winger

                      (PS I think he's a class player though)

                        what does he have to do for him to live up this 'hype'?
                        Play well consistently over the season.

                          I want to argue, but I'm agreeing with you?!

                          Let's go by last season, because we haven't seen yet how they'll use Drogba and Schevchenko

                          Makelele = Alonso
                          Essien = Sissoko
                          Lampard = Gerrard
                          Robben = Kewell/Gonzales
                          Cole/Duff = Pennant
                          Drogba = Crouch/Bellamy

                          Chelsea played all the formations I mentioned with the same 6 players.

                            uh, excuse me is this the ratings thread?
                            i was told it would be here but all i see is a formation thread.
                            anyhoo:
                            defence was shaky
                            sissoko was brilliant(8)
                            pennant and bellamy did very well (7)
                            the rest were pretty average,
                            except the subs.

                              Pennant was MOTM, was very impressed with how well he played and his fitness, he'll be even better in a few weeks time

                                He regained his feet well for the goal and hopefully this will give him a big lift
