Gentleman's agreement or not, under European law it's the length left on the contract which matters.
Totally agree, which is why Rafa will make his decision this Summer

Right, but that must be personal terms.

That'll be part of it sure, but he might fancy a nice fat signing on fee with Chelsea (some of it to be paid to KJ) or SCUM and we'd be powerless to prevent it in 12 months time.

I think that's how KJ intends to keep his investment, he probably has a deal with JM that he gets paid a fat percentage of signing on fees and he'll probably keep his contract lengths very short. Speculation of course, but I can't see him giving up JM aged 22 for 10 million.

but chilli do you honestly believe that the club would do such a thing as sign someone for 10 mill with out a garanty that he will stay longer than 18 months, do you honestly belive that the contract is that simple, that he can just negotiate next christmas?

Not next Christmas, with in the last 6 months of his contract which will be about 11 months time. That's the law mate, not a FIFA ruling but an EU law.

For what it's worth I think this 10 million quoted might include 18 months of wages which for JM will probably be around 3 million quid.

but do you think we as a club would make such a bad deal?

7 million + wages for him for 18 months, I don't know, Rafa might deem that reasonable.
The report could well be a load of bollocks in which case this thread has been a total waste of time

If you multiply it by 3 to make it a 4.5 year deal then it equates to 30 million package for him and he'd be free to negotiate with other teams after 4 years. So an 18 month package at 10 million might be reasonable for him.

Never. It's been fun. It's great to see people with some much passion for LFC.

All will be forgiven if he scores a hat-trick tonight.

Whatever happens with JM, lets get behind the lads for tonight
