ROBBIE FOWLER feels he’s still got plenty of time left at the top level of English football after celebrating his return with a penalty double on Saturday.

The Kop legend knows his Anfield future will remain uncertain until the end of the season.

But Fowler says he’ll play for as long as possible whether he earns a longer stay at Liverpool or not, and hasn’t given up hope of securing another extension for the Reds.

“I know it’s all a bit up in the air at the moment,” said the striker.

“I’ve not spoken to anyone about the future and to be honest I’m still just focusing on enjoying every minute I’m at Liverpool.

“I’ll sit down with people and think about next season when the time’s right, but although I’m not the youngest player at the club, I’m not that old either. I still feel I’ve a few years left in me yet and I’ll be carrying on for longer.

“Some people have mentioned moving into coaching and I even saw a move to the USA mentioned, but I honestly haven’t even thought about anything like that yet.

“I still think I’ve a lot to contribute as a player and I’m just focused on playing as much as I can between now and the end of this season. There’s a lot to play for.”

Fowler was both player and provider in the comfortable 4-0 win, with his penalty tally for the Reds now an impressive 20 in 26 attempts.

“I wasn’t aware of that record,” he said. “I know I’ve missed some pens, but the key is always to make up your mind and stick to it.”

He added: “Obviously it’s not easy to come back into the team when you’ve not played for a while, and I think that showed in some parts of my game.

“I’d prefer to score goals from open play rather than penalties, but I’m not complaining. I’ll take any opportunity which comes along to score.

“It was pleasing to play a part in the goal for Stevie at the end too. He’d made the penalties for me, so it was good to repay the compliment.”

With Manchester United on the immediate horizon, there’s nothing Fowler would love more than to inflict a title wound on the enemy.

Even the striker’s presence on the bench would wind up the opposition, but he’s realistic about his prospects of keeping his place.

“I’m not going to be kidding myself,” he said.

“I wouldn’t expect to be starting that game next weekend, but obviously to be involved in any way would be great.

“That’s up to the manager, but I’m not under any illusions about the situation and know there are other players who’ll come back.”

Liverpool will be monitoring the fitness of Peter Crouch who suffered a broken nose on Saturday.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I think he probably will leave in the summer but it remains to be seen. A Champions League winner's medal would be the perfect send off.

Either way Robbie is a legend.

As for pace, although he was never really quick, he used to be a lot faster than he is now.

How many Premiership goals from open play has he got?

He's still a great finisher but as a player overall he's not what he was and I'm sad to say I don't think he offers us enough.
I think his over-all play has actually improved ten-fold. In his first stint at the club, he was just about goals (something which a lot of people here don;t seem to to rate too highly!!). These days his finishing is still superb but his passing, vision and link up are much better. When bellamy goes in the summer and we get a new striker, robbie will be perfect in a supporting/mentoring role for another 12 months.

          Complete Legend.

You never know - with crouch having plastic surgery to restore his face to its former....errr...glory, he might get another chance or 2 in the next couple of weeks to add a few more to the tally before he leaves us at the end of the season? at least this time he will get to say a proper goodbye.

loved the goal he scored for city v united - then ran past the scum with 5 finger salute. my hero.

carheex, serious question: have you actually seen Fowler this season? I mean at one of the matches and not just on Sky or MOTD?

As you're asking, yes I have. Even if I'd "only" watched on Sky, the passes, runs and positioning are exactly the same as when at the ground. Funny that - what's your point old chap?

Have you watched him 'live' this season? I was one of Robbie's biggest fans. The only Liverpool shirt I have ever put a 'name' on was the old green and white quartered adidas away shirt with the word 'GOD' on the back. My eldest son, who is now 15, adored him before he left for Leeds.

However, this season he has been absolutely awful and that's not just my opinion but every other season ticket holder I know. It was amusing that his mate David Maddocks was singing Robbie's praises in the Mirror today but even Ray Charles could see on Saturday that he was finished. His touch was dreadful and twice we lost possession and two good chances when the ball just rolled under his feet.

It's very sad to have to admit it but Robbie's career at Anfield will end on June 30th and all that will be remembered are the memories of the great player we had in the 1990s...

Robbie is a true legend for me. Home grown, most naturaly talented goalscorer in many an era. I was saddened when Houllier overlooked him and eventually offloaded him. I was well made to see Rafa bring Robbie home again, more for him than myself, as the move away from Anfield was slowly destroying him. I`m sure Robbie will eventually die a happy man knowing he returned to his rightful place before the of his career in the Liverpool squad.

Robbie`s future is uncertain, I hope at some stage, for him me and all of the strikers at the club, he is part of the coaching team in the future.

Give him a contract to stop him going to America. Please stay Robbie. You are our best striker so please score more goals and tell Rafa to put you in the squad.

I honestly admire Robbie Fowler and want him to stay. When he resigned i was over the moon as was one teacher at my school.

                        ROBBIE IS STILL GOD
Id rather bleed with cuts of love then live without any scars

If his name wasnt Robbie Fowler, no one would want him near our club right now.

Misleading. Fowler has scored three penalties and two other goals in an irrelevant game.

Fowler will score goals but other strikers offer more now. Fowler is a 3rd or 4th striker and he isn't going to get any quicker or more mobile no matter how many games he plays. The injuries, advancing years and not looking after himself have taken their toll. Legend for the club and simply the best striker I've ever seen when he was at his peak...but his time has gone.

What do people now make of Rafa's decision to bring him back?

I think he's done well on his return, for a free transfer, a good bit of business IMO.

Absolutely a good bit of business. Essentially a stop-gap - what better stop-gap could we have found for free, who loves the club and the fans love in return? No-one. He's scored some valuable goals since he returned, especially last season, and hasn't complained at the lack of games. Bringing him back was also great for morale, both for the players and for the fans.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
