thought stevie went down easy for the first one to be fair although he was being held, the issue of diving is a complex one i.e. if ronaldo done something like that against us next week im sure there would be alot of unhappy people on here though when stevie does it some may turn a blind eye and say its clever play! it just depends which way you look at things!

Just because it's a corner defenders seem to think they have the right to man-handle forwards.
the controversy is that, gerrard did not try to stay on his feet, he did not try to attack the ball, he did not try get past the defender, but the only thing he tried to do was to get a penalty, and for some people thats the problem, they feel it's not fair play. everyone knows it was a fouls, and that the ref had to give it, but some people think that gerrard sometimes goes down to easilly, and although i am one of them i don't know where i stand on the issue of yesterdays peno...

OK I see what you're saying about trying to stay on his feet, but Stevie couldn't have played for a penalty if the defender hadn't fouled him. If he had attacked the ball but arrived late and headed it over or wide would you then be happy with him? He probably wouldn't have got the penalty because the ref would have "played advantage".
If someone fouls you in the box, you've every right to go down for a penalty in my opinion. The problem isn't with Stevie, the problem is with the fact that defenders get away with fouling at corner kicks too often and then only way to highlight it is to go down when you're fouled.

I have scoured the whole house and have managed to scrape together the herculean amount of 71 pence, which should enable me to get enough food for 3 days! HipHap Hooray! [/Sensible thread hijack]

I have decided against the 3 day stocking up plan and have bought a loaf of thick white bread for 69 pence. I have already munched 3 dry slices, time for some buttered toast action.

i agree with a lot of what you said, and i know it was a penalty, foul inside the box is a peno, no doubt. but imo he deliberaty only went for the penalty, he tried nothing else, but i'm not sure if i have anything against him doing it, but others do and i understand why. but the defender was just stupid and gerrard took advantage of the situation.

Gerrard was getting pissed off because the guy was trying to pull him about a bit with his arms, which he isn't allowed to. SG wanted the ref to have words with him, have the free kick taken again if need be, and be allowed to move a bit more freely. Then the dozy sod of a ref awards a penno, which I don't really think anyone including SG could have foreseen
got to agree with you mate, I think Stevie was just trying to point out to the ref that the guy had his arms all around him.
