It´s not impressive but the bulk of these appearances have come from midfield or as a sub I think.

to be fair to the dude, from the matches i saw at the WC, he actually played better than sheva in terms of work ethic and as a poster said before, he's more of a box to box type of player, something we are lacking at the moment...in any case don't write a player off yet before he pulls on the jersey for us...

A slight over-reaction, but I have to say I worry that some of what you say may be true.

            Great.

That's the one thing our squad is missing, players that 'work hard'.

                Obviously not.

But 'hard work' should be the minimum requirement.

Might he be friendly with Shevchenko? Might he, in fact, be bait for an audacious bid down South?

                  I think I'm jokin'.

                  A defensive mid for £18m?

"No, I do not see myself at Liverpool next year, it is over," he said to RMC in response to a question.

"I have been important for them, helping them to win cups, scoring in the Champions League and FA Cup.

"But I feel very good in Spain. The league is more technical, less direct, and I have scored five goals. I want to do more than the club's best scorer record of 10 goals."

On top of that, Fowler isn't the fastest, neither is he the strongest and he's just getting on a bit. Voronin is pacey, strong, powerful and scores good goals (tap-ins, headers, long range etc.), he's experienced and would fit the bill as a replacement (and he's free & wages won't be high).
Now people will start going on about 'Yea but who did we ever get on a free who was good, you get what you pay for blablabla'. I'd rather we paid **** all for a striker who's strong, decent, nothing out-of-this-world than spend 5-6 million for someone else of the same calibre.

I think some on here underestimate Voronin and are basing their opinions on little knowledge (probably just on stats).

Anyway, we'll just have to wait and see. I trust Rafa would have seen something to make this move, it's not as if he sits in his office and thinks 'Hm, yea, who's the most disastrous player I could find which will really piss off everyone'...
Good post, most people want a striker who`s already famous and will cost 20mil or more.I trust Rafa.

Exactly. It is the very least every single paying supporter should expect from anyone in a red shirt.

Regardless of new players, we need to add a new striker to Dirk, Bellamy, Crouch and Fowler. We'd all like that to be someone like Villa, Torres et al for £30m. So, assuming Fowler is leaving, we need a new back-up striker as well. Say we've got a £30m budget for forwards, I'd much rather spend it all on one awesome player rather than compromise on a risky £20m investment whilst using the rest to buy a backup. This deal for Voronin will allow us to spend more of our budget on a top-notch forward. So well done Rafa! He'll be able to do a job. And I'll reserve my judgement until his performances next season and we sign a another forward.

Welcome Kalesh, great first post, good to see you getting involved.

However, by your definition, we will be selling one of our current strikers, as well as letting Fowler's contract run its course, so which of the current strikers do you think will be sold?

I would have preferred to retain the current strikers, less Fowler, and have replaced him with a top drawer striker, however, what could happen of course is no more strikers coming in, we now have the 4 that Rafa chose himself of course, and the extra goals to be provided by the acquisition of other more gifted players on the left & right flanks?
