    Needing information

I know the subjects a little vague so sorry about that. Basically having one of those arguments with my Manc friend about Liverpool not getting preferntial treatment as everythings gone by the rules etcetc blahblah. I've spent ages scouring google but I must be a noob. I know I've seen these before and read them but when you actually NEED them you cant find them. So my two questions I was hoping some of you might be able to help me would be this..

Players for other teams in europe who have played for more then 2 teams, ala Mascherano. I know Everton has one and theres others listed.

Also back when we were allowed back into the CL when coming 5th, I could of sworn I remember reading the FA had decided at the start of the season that Arsenal and Chelsea would automatically qualify for the CL no matter what position they came. I'm still a little dubious of this part but if someone could help me out with respectable news site with information on these two questions of mine I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks heaps.

I doubt that you will find the FA statement regarding Arsenal and Chelsea on the net. They had it on the official FA site but removed it very quickly when Arsenal couldn't gain anything from it.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

The real question is, why do you have a Manc friend?

The statement on the FA's website, dated March 10th, 2004, read: "Should Arsenal or Chelsea win the Champions League, they will automatically qualify for next season's competition, but England will not gain an extra Champions League place, even if they finish outside of the top four in the Premiership. In that scenario, the fourth-placed team in the Premiership will play in next season's Uefa Cup."

Real Madrid is a precedent for entering the CL as winners despite finishing outside of the qualifying places. Simple precedent...you win the CL, you qualify for the group stages. So in fact we got shat on by having to play further qualifiers.

Uefa changed the rule after we won that the winner got automatic entry into the competition the following year BUT the 4 places were kept and the 7th placed team missed out on Europe if the winners landed outside of the top 7.

The FA made the decision early so as not to look like bad guys. It could be argued that we where not given preferential treatment but rather the opposite. There was a clear precedent set by Madrid that the Holder would qualify over any fourth placed team (rightly or wrongly) and the FA ignored this but hoped that making an early decision would mitigate their error. The fact that it was the wrong decisions was borne out by two things: 1 UAFA changing the rules to what they are no (under which we would have qualified directly to the group stage) and 2. The Blue****e playing exactly 2 games in the said competition and losing them both – before losing in the second tire UEFA cup as well.

There was no precedent set by Madrid being asked to represent La Liga instead of the 4th placed team. It was always the rule that the respective leagues chose the teams they wanted to represent them, they could have chosen the bottom 4 in La Liga if they had wanted, indeed had Madrid not been holders, they could still have legitimately been chosen to represent La Liga.

To add to that, each league's goings on is not applicable to another. Our entry was at the discretion of the FA. They appeared to prefer a smaller 4th placed team to the Champions of Europe...but I think it was part of their strategy to get an extra place in the CL knowing the pressure was on UEFA.
